That requires 15-20 minutes of ice and, to be quite honest, Kreider hasnt shown that hes capable shouldering that type of responsibility -- especially in the playoffs?

You wanna do that to start next season? Sure, go ahead

Totally agree. At this point I like him on a lower line, playing maybe 12 mins or so, and getting a chunk of that time on the PP. While he can potentially score, the risk vs reward with him against a good Bruins team seems a bit too risky in a must win game.

I am fine with that. With the depth we have and especially in the playoffs i understand why Kreider is on the 4th line. However I agree he should be on the PP from now on. Torts played him over 2 minutes on the PP in Game 2 so hopefully he will get similar time

I was glad to see him get some ice time with some quality linemates. I thought he skated hard, could be seen doing little things (using his speed to be able to chip the puck into/out of the zone), and drove the net. A damn shame he caught that stick when he did.

looked good with nasher. created space for nash. brassard was setting him up with those long breakout passes... on a non-coaching-crippled team they'd be a hell of a line :)

pretty excited for next season.

Yeah I'm not worried, not every kid can simply skate right into the NHL. I'm sure he'll be a Top-6 winger soon enough. Training camp will help a lot with determining chemistry, line mates, whether he's ready for top-6 or top-9 or whatever. Should be a lot more comfortable for him going into the season.

Finally, there is no frigggin excuse for the way Kreider was wasted this year. Another whole ELC! And why? because Torts has to "break" him.

Screw you Torts, you *(^^) , for lack of more vulgar vernacular!

You let a guy like Kreider get his max minutes, preferably up here, and have him learn on the job, with encouragement, not get into his brain and make him think a gazillion times before he does anything! Kreider is a special talent.

I thought Kreider had a good series which might not be saying much considering the Bruins kicked our ass so far. However i thought kreider used his speed and big frame well in the limited time he got on ice. It was nice to see him play with nash and brassard. Thery were playing well up until he got hurt.

I'm a big BC fan up here and have season tickets. Based on what you said, the coach has to be on the hook. Jerry York is always positive and players like Kreider thrived under him and he was a big part of the 2012 National Championship team for Boston College.

There is no excuse for the way for the PP is run and I see no adjustment from the coach to improve it. There should be 2 men on the puck and everyone working in unison n the offensive zone. He is smug and condenscending in interviews too.

I'm impressed at Torts ability to affect Kreider's play in Hartford all year...

He shouldn't have been in Hartford. But yet, he went down there and played well. He came back and was given 4th line minutes on a team desperate for scoring ability.

This was the type of situation to accept the growing pains along the way. Help him learn how to be better defensively. No, Tortorella did not have enough time to "coach" Kreider. The best solution was to send a kid who scored 5 goals in the playoffs last year down to the minors. We had an abysmal powerplay all year. All last year. And the one before that. You'd think, being a man up we'd take our chances and let Kreider get some PP time. NOPE. Continue to force the square pegs into round holes.

Full Torts training camp will help his defensive game greatly. Under Torts, the better defensively you are the more ice time he gives you.

CK was playing with better linemates last night, so either Torts is desperate or he trusts him with more responsibility.

CK also needs to get a lot more PP time. 2nd best shot on the team. With the man advantage, defensive slip-ups aren't as important

Kreider's production before the NHL season started was very mediocre. A NHL player shouldn't be playing in the NHL with these numbers, especially as a 1 dimensional forward:

34 GP 5g 7a 12 pts

If Kreider's name was Marek Hrivik, no one would post about calling him up at the time.

Lots of players can look good playing on a line with Rick Nash. Brassard is a pretty good hockey player also.

However, this was a step in the right direction for Kreider. Not sure what happened in the AHL this year with Kreider but it had to affect Tort's decisions this year giving Kreider ice time in the NHL.

He was pretty awful when he went down to Hartford the first time. In 48 games he scored 12 goals and was -11. He scored 4 goals in the first three months in Hartford, and 2 of those came in one game. When he got sent down around March is when he started to play better.

So to say it was clear based on how he was in Hartford when the season started that he didn't deserve to be sent down is just off-base. His play in the AHL should've put to rest anyone arguing for him to stick with the big club.

Torts is desperate. And he should not be distributing ice time based on how defensively you are and how much you can grind. If that was the case a lot of star players in the NHL if they had developed under torts coaching would never have gotten ice time. Sometimes you have to let certain players play to their strengths. You can't force every player to be the same player type. Not everyone on this team can be a grinder. You have to have pure goal scorers. I'm not saying defense isn't important but sometimes you have to sacrifice in certain areas to get the most out of a particular player.

And my biggest issue with all of this is Nash and Kreider. Nash is WORSE by a long stretch defensively than Kreider. Nash can barely get his ass to the point when the puck is passed back. He is constantly out of position which is probably because he does a terrible job of reading plays. At least Kreider is usually in the same realm as the defenseman and skates hard to cover the point meanwhile you have Nash gliding around in his own end. It's sickening. But Nash will never be benched because he is "low maintenance" as torts said from the start. Torts plays favorites and it is painfully obvious. Nash isn't scoring goals and therefore he is simply hurting the team being out there. But then again maybe if Torts implemented a defensive system that wasn't collapsing and tight on the points players like Pyatt, Nash, and Kreider would be more efficient as well as the transition game just may be quicker leading to more offensive zone time. But hey Torts knows all.

There's no excuse for why kreider struggled. Kreider's size, speed, and shot unfortunately puts him ahead of a guy like Hrivik. Not saying he is owed anything but after what he was able to do in the playoffs last year when the compete level is at its highest, you sit through the growing pains because you know its there.

Maybe if you're Florida or Columbus. When has this ever been the rule and not the exception for a team that generally makes the playoffs every year?

This entire thread is sorta sad to me.

So many "Oh, he looked good out there with (insert better players here). He skated fast and even hit a guy!!"

Kreider is a kid that was supposed come in and contribute this season. What a massive disappointment.

I would play Kreider with stepan and Nash and tell them go wild . Score and be the number one PP. Richards will be gone as will clowe (clarkson) I can only dream of a second line with Broussard between cally and clarkson,

Glad we make the playoffs every year. That's something to be proud of, I guess. I also guess it is unheard of to let a talented rookie take up 1 spot in your top 9 on a regular basis.

If he EARNS it. Miller was there for approximately half of the season. Kreider did not play well enough to EARN a top 9 place on a regular basis.

EDIT: Where did Hagelin play as a rookie? And Stepan?

With what this team needed, Kreider should've been given a longer leash. They needed scoring. You can refer to Hagelin, Stepan, and Miller all you want but not one of those guys are a pure goal scorer. Kreider is. This team needed that, especially on the PP.
