He's over thinking and over skating. Needs to slow down and let the game come to him a bit more. Use that speed burst to change the pace and catch some d flat footed now and then. Also some people get better when they analyze every second of their play hit I don't think he's one of them.

He needs to stop focusing on what he is doing wrong and focus on what he can do right. The more he focuses on what he is doing wrong the less he will do. One shift at a time.

just move him down to a checking line id even try this

nash brass zucc
Oscar Hayes fast you have to give Lindberg the chance seeing he's the only hot hands next to zucc lately
Kreids stoll stalberg literally stick him on this line and tell him to get in on the forecheck and just play the body
miller Moore etem sorry this is just whats left with no DS for a month

i would just simplify his game and give him less minutes out of the spot light. just dump the puck in if you have to and go get it. check every opponent who has the puck. if you happen to free the puck and get it send it to the point or to the net. don't look for a crazy cross ice pass. once he gets that he will start to build confidence

EDIT: or switch up miller and stalberg who knows what kind of back check these guys will bring on a nightly basis

I agree, the Rangers have drafted in the upper tier since 2004 and they've picked in the top 10 twice.

Jessiman was a disaster - then and now. Had the Rangers taken Getzlaf, they look fantastic.

McIlrath will play in the NHL, though admitedly both then and now Tarasenko was the better pick.

So at worst, the Rangers missed the boat on being elite with two picks they should've made and a lot of people called for. But even throwing that out, they've done well in the face of tragedy (Cherepanov) and by working with less (no pick in the top 60 in four drafts).

You're leaving out their casting off of draft picks. That counts as part of their drafting record.

Kreider wants to be a finesse player. He thinks he's Artemi Panarin. Too much positive reinforcement from the sports psychologist. Someone needs to tell him to play the game like a caveman for a while.

Yeah you just wish he was a little more like Lucic in terms of personality.

Kreider is actually an incredibly intelligent dude, a true academic. So he's very far from that caveman in terms of his off ice demeanor.

I heard him speak at an engagement earlier this year, and you know this guy could be a high level analyst at a hedge fund from the way he talks.

But he's a hockey player and he needs to step up and play like he doesn't care about how his peers judge him and bury some guys.

I'd love to see him man up and bury the opposition's top defenseman at full speed, he'd knock them out for weeks at that high speed velocity.

The amount of physical force and power he can exert out there is like no other, he'd rather play a sissy soft brand of hockey.

Being a high level Wall Street analyst is by no means a good indicator of intelligence appraisal. Believe me...

What's going on with this guy? I don't usually watch the Rangers, but he really impressed me in the playoffs last year. I was completely shocked with the way he was playing when I saw him in person on Wednesday.

Overthinking too much. That's his problem.

He's definitely been on the downswing. :(

I Never rush to want to trade a player with a boat load of potential..but i REALLY do think he will never live up to anything.

Just no hockey IQ at all. Wait till he gets on a hot streak and SELL SELL SELL Even if he were to hit and destroy other players once a game id be happy, but he rarely does that. Find yourself Kreider..FAST..or FAST or take your spot.

I mean .... What's the return? I'm not trading kreider for just anything..

It is hard to say he will never live up to anything when he has already had a 20 goal 45 point season (and was on pace for another the year before but didn't play the full year). Even if he never puts up better numbers than that that's still a really useful player. Not sure why you'd want to get rid of that. He's 99th/286 in pts/60 among forwards since the first season he was a regular (13-14) at 1.77. That's better than Backstrom/Marleau/Galchenyuk/E. Staal/Eriksson/JVR/Giroux/Callahan/Scheifele/Nielsen/Koivu/Zibanejad/Skinner etc... to name some. Not that he's better players than some of them but his even strength production has been better.

Has he ever been inserted for any length of time on the right wing which would improve his shooting angle ? He may as well forget about shooting on the rush on that left side . Not many goalies today are letting those in ....

he seemed to show some signs of life last night and seemed to enjoy himself more on the ice last night. hopefully the new line will help him out

Been saying it, but with Nash on the other side, Kreider gets room to carry through the neutral zone and lead the charge, which is far and away his highest value to this team. Nash, away from brass and zucc gets to enter the zone later, doesn't have to force turnovers and can instead control the puck in the o-zone with Kreider left to wreak havok in the corners and in front of the net. The two, with the right center, are a perfect compliment.

We have a hole at the 2RW position, but that's been exacerbated by the fact that we have been asking Kreider not to play primarily in a puck-retreiver, carrier, and forechecker role the way he's always worked best and the way plenty of other players (particularly LWs) under AV have thrived (Pouliot, Hagelin, etc)

this post is pretty much the opposite of spot-on..

hockey iq is so often thrown around as the cause of bad play.

imho his iq has nothing to do with it, its..
1)he doesnt hit the effing net with his shots.
2)hes too often caught watching the play instead of engaging in the play.
3)hes in a slump...plain and simple.

Because he can't process the game quickly....because his hockey IQ is lacking. He's a deer in headlights when required to break down and respond to what is happening on the ice. Any situation that requires him to do something other than scare the goalie out of the way is too mentally taxing for Kreids.

oh please...where was all this lack of hockey IQ/ deer in headlights bs when he was tearing up the league at points last season...

hes still a kid, still learning the NHL, and still prone to mistakes. hockey iq is such an overly used excuse for bad play.

hes playing poorly, he didnt get a head injury that all of a sudden made him hockey stupid.

I wasn't here last season, lol. Anyway, he was tied for 107th in points in the league last season. Not a world beater, not elite, not "tearing up the league". Yes, it was nice production...but "tearing up the league" is hyperbole.

How is it an excuse? This is his fourth season in the NHL and he is in a contract year. He should have all the motivation in the world. You yourself have stated that he stands around instead of engaging in play. It's obvious that he has trouble processing plays. The only thing he can process is himself with the puck skating really fast, the occasional deflection, and some rebound goals. He also can't think enough to come up with a deek on a goaltender when taking a penalty shot.

hes playing poorly, he didnt get a head injury that all of a sudden made him hockey stupid.

The league has figured him out. Get in his way and don't let him push you off the puck while he is breaking is all it takes for Kreids to lose his confidence. Why? Because he's got nothing else. He won't stop and snipe a goal when you're in his way or make a beauty of a pass to create offense. He's playing like a dolt.

VERY brief and fleeting points, which is a huge part of the problem.

actually, i feel like his issues have been trying to do exactly those things. Fact of the matter is, he's strong and fast enough that for every battle or race he loses, he'll win three. Last night was a great example of Kreider taking that to heart.

Not being Tarasenko or Benn does not mean he's playing like a dolt, in fact, trying to be those players and not playing to his own strengths has been the problem. Much of that is on him, some has been misuse from the coaches imo.

That confirms my point. He can't do those things because he's a one-trick pony with little variety to his game.

Never said he had to be Tarsenko or Benn. At this point, I'm looking for at least something better than the Hagelin 3rd line goal production of last season, lol. Kreider is on a pace for maybe 11 goals. That's crummy as **** for a 2nd line LW who plays w/ Steps.
