Call me crazy but I don't think girls can play competitive physical sports against boys. I know this is a wild take but I really believe it. Maybe I'm bigoted?
If you allowed them to play against boys their entire child life, they may have a better chance of making it work/learning how to make it work.

There will still likely become a point in their lives where they won't be able to make it work anymore, likely around puberty, but you give girls zero chance by making them play against other girls early on.

No chance. Strength difference is simply too massive. You'd have a better chance winning a tug of war against a gorilla.

Never said the chance was large, likely would NEVER come to fruition, but allowing girls to play against boys their entire life would give them a better shot than they currently have.

There aren't any rules against girls playing with boys. They are separated because girls normally become a detriment to a team by the age of 8 or 9.

Definitely. I'm not arguing the logic and science behind the conversation. All I'm arguing is that dominating their peers and then trying to throw them into the WHL/OHL/QMJHL isn't ever going to happen.

For the top .000000001% .. like McDavid/Bedard/Crosby level girl athlete, you would likely need them to try and play with the boys for as long as possible to try and get them acclimated/push themselves.

They likely still come up way short due to all of the factors we know, but that is the only way.

100% agree, this would be the only way it would ever be accomplished

Genuine question, how good is she projected to be? Played with boys until 14/15, and is tearing up the Womens CSSHL U18 with almost 4 points per game as a 16yo.

Is she projected to be a future Olympian, best of her age? Or is she just dominating a lower league and there are 16yo girls playing in higher level women's leagues better then her?

Theres a pretty significant overlap in physicals for both sex, this player is the same size as a guy that literally dominated the NHL league this year, like men need to chill.
Size isn’t the only factor. Cut the sanctimonious, disingenuous BS.

The overwhelming majority of the time, males have greater bone density, higher amounts of fast-twitch muscle fibers (leading to greater strength, power, and speed at the same weight), different skeletal structure (especially in the upper body, leading to biomechanical and further strength advantages), increased aggression and competitiveness, less empathy.

This isn’t a matter of morals or equal opportunity. It’s a matter of biology and safety.

She’d have to be an absolute 1-in-a-million genetic freak to be competitive at this age group, or she’d have to be coddled and the other players would have to play by special rules against her, which would frankly be more insulting, patronizing, and misogynistic than anything else - just putting her in that position.

Based on her numbers in Bantam, she isn’t that aforementioned genetic freak.

She doesn’t have to play against men or prove anything against men to be considered a great athlete, suggesting that she does is, again, rather misogynistic.

Agree with everything other then 1 in a million. It's much more likely its 1 in 10 million or 100 million...maybe a billion. There are few examples of women effectively competing against men in U20 sports - particularly contact sports ever.

Those immature teen boys are still way stronger and faster than 98% of teen girls.

So the points stands then? If you are a top 2% female who is bulky, muscular, developed, you probably could play in the WHL if you had the skill level to do it.

Look I grew up with guys who were 5'10, 150 soaking wet, who put up over 100 in the WHL.. I know its possible physically for a female to play in that league without a doubt. Just needs to be the correct build and have the same hockey ability as their counterparts.

No, because they still lack the bone structure and fast twitch fibers necessary to compete at that level.

If it’s just a matter of having the “correct build”, surely it would’ve happened by now, right? What hasn’t it happened?

I’ll let you define what “correct build” means.

I don't know... my sister played against boys 2 years older than her for the entirety of her childhood and was doing damn fine... up until the puberty ages. It just became impossible at that point and she became a goalie instead.

The likely outcome for almost every case.

Fixed

"the median man has greater upper-body strength than 99.9% of women"

That means Mr Joe Schmoe 5'8" 160 lbs has a stronger upper body than every woman except 1 in 1,000. Men are much, much, much stronger than women.

160 lbs man boxer hits way harder than 200 lbs woman boxer. It's just a fact.

Besides the science, there is also the psychological issues. It’s like when a guy is forced to wrestle a girl. He dominates and wins then “dude, she’s a girl, take it easy” or he gets shit for being pitted against a girl. He loses and “he lost to a girl”. Not to mention puberty hormones and all that
