Parnata is their GM, has been a scout/GM in the WHL since the 80's. You can look for positive press and stories without falling into the description you're implying.

Chloe was undoubtedly a good enough player that year to be drafted, of course everyone knows she doesn't have the same development and progression as the rest of her peers.

They would have otherwise passed on the pick, using it to shine some light on the best female Canadain player in decades is perfectly fine. It was absolutely for publicity, not often a 13th round pick gets a shout out from a celebrity owner, but it was a harmless use of a draft pick they would have otherwise skipped using.

A U18 AA or AAA team with Chloe on it is still effectively a boys team (with one girl on it) playing other boys teams.

The USNTDP team is effectively a USHL/CHL-level team. If Chloe is playing U18 AA or AAA, it's against other average U18 AA or AAA teams, not the top 0.1% of the boys hockey pyramid.

Sure, and Midget AAA teams routinely beat team Canada. My point is that she has nothing to gain by playing against 17 & 18 year old boys, aside from an increased risk of injury.
