Lol, NYI just signed Ryan Pulock, a superior player to Jones in almost every way, to a contact worth 6.15 per season. That's how you build a contender, Hawks FO is pathetic.

Nhl GM’s need to stop falling in love with certain players and fall in love with the team (meaning building a team full of good caphits).

We had Duncan Keith for 13 years at 5.5 million

It’s a bit different when the players are home grown

Duncan Keith is one of perhaps the 30 best ice hockey defenseman in history. Seth Jones is, well, not...

When Keith signed his contract it had a cap hit percentage of 9.75 percent, Jones new contract has a cap hit percentage of 11.66 percent.

Jones will be the third highest paid defenseman in the NHL beginning next season. That fact is a joke, a farce and should get everybody involved in the signing fired. They won't though, since the NHL is run by incompetence, nepotism and the fact that the Fed can create "money" out of thin air to keep the bread and circuses like professional sports running for a very long time until reality catches up. But that is a topic for another discussion...

You missed his point. Keith’s all time rating is irrelevant. He was drafted by the Hawks - that was the point of the comment. It’s easier to sign good deals for players your team drafted. “Hometown discount” is a common phrase. Jones signed a contract like he would have gotten in free agency, which he was not shy in stating he wanted to see.

The contract sucks. Don’t think anyone will disagree there.

Yeah, my point is that hometown discount isn't a thing, it's generally a myth. At least for the Hawks, but this might have to do with the aformentioned incompetence of the people in charge though, perhaps some other GMs can sign homegrown players to discounts but it is rare. Kane, Toews, Seabrook didn't give discounts. Keith and Hossa were "cheaper per year", but that is only because those contracts were the results of loopholes in the CBA that were promptly closed some time after they were signed. The Hawks have overpaid pretty much every player for the last 10 years, which is utterly foolish since almost every player is a mercenary who will play for the team that pays them the most. The fact that the Hawks didn't cut and walk away from players who were in obvious decline is the reason they didn't win at least 2 more Cups in their prime.

Regardless, paying a player like Seth Jones like he is a HoF caliber player is the spell of doom for any franchise and the Hawks will pay dearly for this debacle in the coming years.

That's pretty impressive to end up a minus player when you're on the ice for all 3 goals for and none against in 26 minutes.

At this point Jones is that guy that people say bad shit about just out of habit. No one is really giving him an honest appraisal anymore.
Avs 4 Hawks 2. Jones 28 minutes and a minus 2.
Two games Jones 27 minutes average and a minus 1.

A long nine years for the Blackhawks with Seth Jones...

He's literally played so awful for Chicago, just one giant anchor for that team.

I can almost bet he'll be the reason Colliton and Bowman get fired.

You bet he will be the reason Colliton gets fired ?

You seriously need to watch more Hawks if you believe this. The guy is a bottom 3 coach in the league. You have no idea what your talking about

Blaming a guy three games in for a coach who is beyond incompetent and has always been

Keith was more important to the Hawks than they realize, what a tire fire of a D

Oh man

Not this convo again

Yes, Keith is still a very competent D man. A two or more likely a 3 at this point. Most Hawk fans would acknowledge such

Keith didn’t look good in the past few years. Neither does Jones early. Hell, Toews when he was healthy has bleed scoring chances against in this system.

If you have 3 all star calibre two way players who bleed scoring chances in a ‘system’, maybe the players aren’t the issue…..

The Hawks might be the worst team in the NHL at this very second. It has little to do with roster and everything to do with the idiots behind the bench

Bowman won't fire him. If that were the case, Quenneville would still be the coach to this day.
