Actually have liked Lafferty's game so far. Only 2 games in, but his speed is noticeable, he plays a nice heavy fore check. Hasn't provided any offense yet, but he doesn't seem like he's completely lost or useless in the O-zone. Im completely fine with him in a bottom 6/ pk role for the rest of this year.

I don't think most of you really understand how bad ANylander is.

Don't look at his draft position, nor his last name, or what ever what he might have
done in the NHL. He sucks.

At least Lafferty can bring something, Nylander is most likely heading
to Europe after this season.

"Don't look at what he has accomplished, he sucks because I say so!"

Now up to 5 points in 6 games for WBS.

Absolutely correct. You hit the nail on the head . Heavy fore check. Something the pens lacked and it showed during the playoffs. To give up one of the only players capable of thay for a AHL guy who makes more $$$ seems silly. Even if Nylander never skates a single game for the pens. Surely they could have swapped Lafferty for a bottom pair D with some size that needed a new home. The kings just gave the pens a royal beat down and the lack of some up front was apparent

I am really confused for why Chicago did this. Lafferty stinks, he has 3 goals in his last 90 games and does nothing except for throw hits and take stupid penalties.

This seems like Chicago giving up a scratch off lottery ticket for a bag of day old McDonald's from the dumpster.

They scratched it off already and know it's not a winner.

Add to that total with 2g+1a=3pts night tonight in a 5-1 WBS victory over Toronto...

Good trade as he fit a desperate need in WBS for a skilled scoring forward. Puus was alone and carrying the vast share of consistent offense on his shoulders and him being the only consistent threat he was starting to slow down as teams could focus defensive efforts on him (POJ helped out too but obviously isn't a fwd). So Nylander arrived at the exact time when the need was proving to be of the "glaring" variety and he's provided that exact need as well as perfectly filled that role in home run style.
Yup, only 8 games and who knows how much he will cool down, but so far in terms of exact need and how he is fulfilling said needed role, he's been damn near perfect and a perfect fit

Well, he has talent. He helps WBS and we needed to otherwise waive Lafferty. Win for the Pens, and better still if its a win for Chicago too.

Seems like Nylander has the raw talent needed. If he decides to add the work ethic and attention to detail, this could be real good. Otherwise just a meaningful assset swap.

Fair. I don't think he's a regular roster player for a championship team but that's not Chicago's aim right now. Lafferty's still young and he's got a lot of tools.

He's shown some things offensively but it never amounts to much. Seems like his feet are a lot faster than his brain, but if the game starts slowing down for him he could be useful. The Hawks have the luxury of time.

Meh he's about to turn 27. He is no spring chicken. I think his ceiling is like Carter Rowney. Pretty much a journey 4th line center who may have an outlier season.

Either way seems like a win - win trade.

Pens think Nylander can develop the other parts of the game to be an asset. The Pens had to move Lafferty for cap purposes or lose him.

Nylander with another 2 goals tonight, now up to 6 goals and 10 points in 9 games with WBS

I have no clue if he ends up anything in the NHL, but his offensive ability is certainly a positive addition to WBS.

If he stays scoring he would be worth a look next season. Maybe he's a late bloomer and we find out why he was drafted 8OA. Then again Derrick Pouliot was drafted 8th OA and he blows.

Sounds like both teams are getting the exact player they were trading for.

Penguins traded for a skill AHL level forward that was waiver eligible and got it.

Chicago traded for a 4th line NHL level forward will speed and a bit of grit with low offensive output and got it.

Sounds like a desirable outcome for both.

This is HF, someone has to get fleeced in every trade.

Can't wait for Nylander to get a game in the NHL and score a goal on his first shift...just to see everyone lose their minds.

I mean he has 32 pts in 82 NHL games. He clearly can play in the NHL but has warts. With him being waiver eligible I have no idea why chicago didn't give him a game or two since he didn't play at all last year.

Yeah.....thats not gonna happen.....think of it like this. What difference is Nylander going to make in a game 7 the caps , bruins or hurricanes or worst against a bigger west coast team ? If you think he will help, good for you. If you think a bigger more physical forward wouod help more than your probably right!!!! That's of course of he cracks the lineup
