Dean probably hitched his wagon to Sutter with that extension last year. Even if their relationship wasn't as strong as before at present, the two are tied together. If people in the organization didn't want Sutter back after last season, Dean probably signed his own death sentence by giving him he extension.

Reeks of palace intrigue here. I'd have to look up the initial Robitaille hiring, but it seems like an AEG move more than a Lombardi move, although Lombardi did want to build a culture and feels alumni are a big part of it. Then Luc gets his buddy Blake in there. Can totally see players unhappy with Sutter talking to Luc and Blake. Things are set in motion etc.

Robitaille had a lot of power this entire time and now he has what he has, in my opinion, ultimately wanted for awhile now. This guy now oversees the entire operation!

In the end, no surprise if Lombardi wouldn't fire Sutter. Lombardi knows he made a mess here the last few years as well so a good time to leave: especially if Luc were to become his boss. So, show that famous Lombardi loyalty and go down with your guy.

All speculation but, even with the past three seasons, dumping Lombardi for these two greenhorns doesn't seem like a smart decision.

For a long time it felt like Luc wanted Dean's job.

I need to know if Futa was ever approached for GM position, if not...

And people mention Yzerman... I'd like to point out that TB is in cap hell. They're gonna lose big pieces this summer.

Uh, that's because they have drafted too well and have too much depth and talent. Not because of bad contracts, not comparable at all. Callahan is the only bad contract they have.

They also shed Bishop and Flip. Will likely move Palat/Johnson for a defenseman if I had to guess before they need to re-sign the two of them.

You guys wanted DL gone. I better not read complaints about Blake.

There is literally no way that Blake or anyone who knows the difference between a blueline and a clothesline could do any worse than Dean has done these last three years.

Dean won the cups, and no one can take that away from him, but this franchise is in horrific shape right now. Lots of older high priced players, the cupboard is completely bare.

So they're doing so well they're ****ed?

Well they aren't going to lose those guys for nothing. Aren't they all RFA's? They'll trade them for prospects/picks.

I don't think they're gonna get nearly the return they think they will. Especially with the CBA coming up.

It's in bad shape but why have essentially two greenhorns take the reigns of the org?

Blake has no experience outside of being a player and a marginal HHOFer at that. He can very easily do worse than DL.

Unsure about the Blake hiring. The old boys club vibe is there.

Did Blake hire Stothers? If so, that's a positive sign. But still not sure about going forward with such inexperience. Especially in such a major off season. We need a new coach, need to move salary, two big rfa's, expansion draft, and we could even have a top 3 pick.

Just look at the Oilers from 10 years ago, Avalanche now, they hired the good OL boys and it drove the org right into the ditch.

Hiring 2 retired jerseys is a scary thing.

Hard to fire retired jerseys

This is what I'm scared of, our past trying to make decisions about our future. It's hard to be objective when you're so close to the organization.

How are they ****ed? All potential signees are RFAs and they can be moved out if need be. Johnson and Drouin will be signed. Palat will be moved for depth or picks if I had to guess.

I have major concerns about the promotions, but it was Sutter's and Lombardi's time

That is how I feel as well.

You can't just look at these last three years and where the franchise is and pretend it didn't happen or mention 2012 and 2014. That is what the Angels have done with Scioscia and they never returned to that level. Winning a championship should not give you lifetime job security.

But I am not crazy about Blake taking over. Wish they went outside the organization.

Johnson and Drouin may not end up being signed. Not if they want the pay days people are thinking they're gonna want.

There's no reason for Futa to stay at this point, and when he leaves, it'll feel really weird around here.

Over the entire tenure? Ofcourse.

But the last three years basically everything Lombardi has done has blown up in his face, can we think of one positive move?

It doesn't look that bad to me. Shedding Filppula's contract at the deadline for virtually nothing was tremendous. Their main issue will be their three RFAs (Palat, Johnson, and Drouin). I could see them dealing Johnson before the expansion draft and more or less replace him internally with Brayden Point.

The other logical move would be to buy out Jason Garrison (4.6 mil cap hit, 2.5 mil actual salary). The buyout would save them 1.66 mil in cap space.

And as others pointed out, those guys are RFAs. If they did 'lose' them, they'd be getting some form of compensation back.

We need to wait and see what Robitaille and Blake can do. We all new that Blake would most likely take over as GM if Lombardi was fried or Futa. I wonder what will happen to Futa if he will be promoted to assistant GM. I like the change it will be interesting to see who the new coach will be and the direction this team will go. I have alot of respect for Lombardi and Sutter and what they have brought to the Kings. Thanks for being LA there first 2 Stanley Cups.

If it really is an old boys club, I could see a Dan Bylsma hire, assuming he gets fired. Wouldn't be the worst idea. Had success in Pittsburgh. Problem there is that he's very much into system play and wore out his team in Buffalo. Sabres were called "unwatchable".
