Tappara would really have to drop the ball to not make it to the finals. On top of that, very likely the final will be played on home ice for Tappara, considering the much tougher matchups for Sparta, Rögle, Frölunda and Lexand.

Don't get ahead of yourself. Red Bull München has played in CHL final 18-19 and Lukko's coach Marko Virtanen has already led one team to the gold in CHL (JYP 17-18).

RBM is still a notch weaker than any team on the opposite side of the playoff tree. Lukko has a fighting chance. But, I don't see them getting passed Tappara. Even if Tappara was to lose one game to Lukko, they could probably afford it and still get to host the final. In my eyes, they are the favourite to win it, at this point.

Huh. Not sure if this was mentioned here, but did the CHL change their broadcasting viewing?

I used to be able to watch the live games on YouTube, being from the US, but now it's no longer viewable here?

Anyone else with this problem?

With that said, if Fribourg-Gottéron manhandles RBM tomorrow and advance, I might revise my prediction somewhat. However, so far the Swiss teams remain a disappointment.

That sucks. A lot. They have to play next week. No more free passes for ICEHL teams.
If Bolzano is chosen here, this competition is forever over for me. Then it's enough! There have been so many weird methods around anyway.

Yes, another really disappointing showing of our Swiss teams. Zurich yesterday was to be expected, they also struggle quite a bit in the domestic league at the moment and had a lot of sick and injured players. So I really did not expect them to turn this one around.

Also for my team (Fribourg) it would suprise me if we went to Munich and would advance. We are good this year but we struggle against teams that play physical. Most of our league struggles against that style. It think this is also the reason why we usually have a difficult time agianst German teams. But yes, overall disappointing showing once again.

Thats suprising for me becuse of 2 reasons: there is many na players in nla and swiss national team is always physical when i watch them play

Nah brah, you definately have those homer glasses on. Tappara has basicly a finnish EHT level defence and very good depth in forwards. And ofcourse as you saw, better goaltending. Besides, some of the guys you listed werent even playing today, what business do they have here.

Im not saying Tappara is horrible or anything i just think Växjö have stronger roster. Växjö is often not good in CL, i think Hallams coaching does not work in international.

Yes Tappara goaltending was better in 1 game. Kalnins is Latvian NT goalie and good KHL player for many years.

Seems that the Lukko-Bolzano game has been postponed because of Covid after all. What was the rationale for not postponing the first game between Mannheim and Frölunda then, considering the very similar situation?

The national team plays decently physicle nowadays i would say (still some room to grow), but the league is as soft as it gets. Its something i have been missing, Swiss hockey/culture is missing the nastiness and mean streak imo. You can see it starting in young age up to the adults.

The ones that actually make it in NA adapt well to the agressive/physicle playstyle, but these are more or less exceptions.

Really stronger roster? But marginal!

Don't know about Hallam, but rest is fair even from my (Tappara) perspective. While most Växjö players are virtually unknown about in Finland, me and everyone has enormous respect for the team. Few (if any) of our players would strengthen the roster of a team which wins the title in the SHL, that's the reality. Still, hockey is a game where it doesn't mean so much. Likewise, there are plenty of teams in our domestic league which don't have players which would strengthen our squad, and we still lose all the time against them. There are other factors, including but not limited to, pure luck. Any team can beat any team in one game, that's hockey.

I think Växjö was the better side on the ice yesterday. Tappara was slightly on top in the first period but after that, it was a struggle. Our team gave up too many pucks on our defensive blueline which opened many scoring opportunities for the visitors. Växjö's passing game was quite impressive, too. Our hot goalie and scoring efficiency were the keys to victory. Tappara was better in the first encounter, though.

Having now won the hardest group in the group stage and then defeating the Swedish champions in round of 16, we deserve the easier match-up in the quarter-finals. We shall see tonight whether it is Rouen or Salzburg. First time for Tappara at this stage of tournament even though we've made it through the group stage in every CHL so far. Unlike maybe in the very first editions, Tappara takes CHL very seriously these days. Even way more seriously than an average domestic league game. I already hope I get to attend the final in our new arena in February.

Apparently Lukko goes through to the next round. I dont like this decision. Bolzano gets punished, for Lukko not being able to play?

Right decision. At first place those groups for teams coming from countries taking part in Olympic qualifiers was a wrong and unfair model for other teams.

I hope CHL learns something from these cases.

qf:

Rögle - Prag
Frölunda - Leksand
Bayern Munchen - Lukko
Tappara - Rouen

My bet:

Rögle
Frölunda
Munchen
Tappara

I agree the league is very soft, the far more concerning part imho is that the cheap shots increase. Stunts what goons like Herzog and Barberio produce (blind side hits, cross-check to the head etc.) are inacceptable and are unfortunately not punished. The league did not become more physical but way dirtier
