There we are...its basically Monahan money for the RFA yrs.
Knowledgeable hockey people knew it wasnt going to be 7M/yr

Talk was 8x8, buying up 2 more UFA years. In this deal Calgary actually only buys up one, lets him hit the market younger. Good deal for Gaudreau to get close to 7 while only giving up 1 free agent season.

This. JG made out like a bandit. If it was this cap hit for 8 years the team would have won the deal but JG only gave up one UFA year so really he got more than he should have.
All that having been said I am happy for Flames fans. I never like to see teams lose players due to $$$$$$
I saw it happen in Edmonton far too many times.

Wow, not bad. Kids only gonna get better, could see a 90 point player in his prime pretty easily and at 6.75 AAV that is pretty disgusting.

Make that two jealous Canucks fans. Meanwhile Benning paid almost the same for Eriksson ($6 mill/6years)

So whats the better deal?? Not even close :shakehead

Difference was paying a UFA and RFA and if we had an RFA of that caliber then theres something to say. But at 6x6 for Eriksson I think is still a good deal.

But man, good deal for flames.

I think this is a pretty fair deal for the Flames....the only concern going forward will always be if Johnny can survive the rigors of the NHL...

If he can, then this is a solid deal for the Flames...

Isn't that the concern for every long term big contract?

Just remember what a great deal the club got when he walks at 28 years old. Players have long memory's.

Yeah. After all he'll likely bolt for his home town after this contrsct is done. Just like Stamkos did right
