I think this is a pretty fair deal for the Flames....the only concern going forward will always be if Johnny can survive the rigors of the NHL...

If he can, then this is a solid deal for the Flames...

Can't believe people are still saying this after 2 seasons.

Oh wait, it's coming from the #1 flames fan dev so makes sense.

Looking at the terms Gaudreau won't be a Flames for life. Flames don't see him as a long term plan. They got him when he's good don't want him beyond that.

Rediculous, six years is long term, not the longest of eight but it's still a long-term investment! in six years there will be a new CBA and who knows, possibly even new management in Calgary.

Excellent deal.

Even if JG doesn't improve that ACV is fantastic. If he continues to get better then it ends up a steal.

6 years is a long time and JG is already 23, sets up the Flames well to compete in 2-3 seasons. Wouldn't be surprised if that term was also preferred by the Flames, as that's when Giordano's contract expires.

Overall a top tier deal. Treliving is a very enviable GM.

Great deal! The only thing better would have been getting 8 years, however the extra 1.5 million in cap savings will be a big benefit over the course of the term.

I actually prefer the 6 year to be honest. Flames have players coming that could be just as or more productive in the future. It allows flexibility in other contract negotiations, as well as timing. Gio's contract expires same year and he's turning 37, so lots of free cap if he is a mega star and we decide to keep him. If not, easy contract to trade in 5-6th year. Those 5 teams in his list are just enough teams for a nice bidding war, all probably within the same division no less.

BT is the best GM this organization has ever had. He is building a winner. Slowly but surely.

Well, would've been 7.5 at least I'm sure. Not sure if it would've reached 8.

Fair enough. Anyway, as an Oilers fan, I do think this is a good deal for the Flames. He really is a fun player to watch! Hope to see some back and forth highlight reel goals on Wednesday, as long as we get more! :P

I'd easily have given him in the 7.5M range to get it to 8 years. Those extra 2 years are easily worth the 750k more cap hit per year

I agree. 7.5x8 would be amazing. Not sure that would have done it though, Gross really seemed to have that 8x8 as a floor for that kind of term
