So you are discrediting a national indigenous leader because you think the idea is disengenuous? Of course it’s not a monolithic group but he is the elected leader of the organization and is a very credible voice. He wasn’t some random guy with a tweet and suggesting he is not a strong voice here is the disingenuous part.
As for the Eskimo vs Inuit thing it’s clear the Inuit in Canada have been labeled this in their history and that in general(but it’s not monolithic) they find the term offensive and do not want to be referred that way.
The name change was handled very poorly, erasing the name from the past is bad, there were other ways to seek reconciliation and they didn’t do it.
Larry Thompson was basically the demographic being called out by the idiots on the board. He should’ve been the most upset. Maybe he was but he put his money where his mouth was, and kept his seasons tickets, and then he bought the team. I’m glad and we are lucky he did so. I hope the community is ready to move forward with him.
I never said that Obed was some random dude.
Is his claim that he alone should be the voice for the enitre group of thousands of indivduals on an issue that may illicit different reactions from each person?
This isnt a Governmental negotiation around a land claim or something that affects the group as a whole. This is an issue that only affects how each individual may feel.
My point really was that he shouldnt be representaive of a multitude of individuals regarding an issue that each and every one of them might have their own thoughts about.
Do you disagree with that?
If so...explain why each and every individual should not have their own voice be heard on this specific issue?
It seems that you are saying that if Obed says the word Eskimo is offensive therefore every single person he represents must accept that conclusion regardless of their own personal thoughts on the matter.
Also...I would highly recommend that you research the name Eskimo and its origins.
If you do you will see that it has a seperate origin from that the Inuit people.
That is another reason why Obed really doesnt have a say.
Says me. Last time I checked, this is an opinion forum and that's my opinion. I will however, admit to some wishful thinking when I say that ship has sailed. The retro bickering about the name change is a tiresome distraction from what the EE really needs to do to keep me buying season tickets: WIN!
P.S.: I grudgingly accepted the name change back in 2021 having neither campaigned for nor opposed it. Therefore please refrain from comparing me to Karl Marx, Ho Chi Minh, Eugene Debs or any other famous communists/socialists.
Right or wrong...you are I are obviously both entitled to an opinion on this.
So I will just have to disagree with you that the name ship has sailed.
I see little credible evidence to suggest that is in fact a reality.
