Classic left brain/right brain trade. Emotional side hates it, analytical side loves it.
Exactly. I’m not thrilled he’s traded by any means but when you get offered Porzingis and 2 firsts (which you desperately need to help fill out the bench for cheap, especially since Jaylen is getting either maxed or supermaxed)….then i mean you kinda have to do it

If White wasn’t a better defender than Smart last year I wouldn’t have done it

Going? It’s been this way for like 6 years
There's embracing the evolution of a sport which has moved more towards the three pointer and doing what the Celtics did this season which is go all in on it.

The five seasons before this they shot 30.4, 34.5, 34.5, 36.4 and 37.1 Three Pointers per game. Mazzulla becomes coach with a heavier analytics approach and they shot 42.6 per game this season. It's not like he's got half court sets designed to get shooters open with movement and off ball screens like the Warriors or Heat do either. It's the Eastern Conference version of the James Harden led Houston Rockets that never reached the finals because it's not a reliable way to win 4 series in the playoffs.

Not like there’s been a dynasty in the last decade that popularized the way the game is played now

You have to have the right personnel to do it- having Smart’s inconsistent shooting really hurt what they were trying to do. Especially since teams would just sag off him late and dare him to shoot….and he would oblige. What they need is a PG who other teams have to respect on offense late in games and will get the team out of their ISO hero ball BS

I’d try and swing Brogdon for Paul (or any true PG)

Here’s the thing, it clearly isn’t changing and the biggest offender of refusing to stop shooting 3s when he CAN’T is gone

A late lineup of White/Brown/Tatum/Porzingis/TimeBob will be very difficult to score on. Tons of length.

Smart was getting in the way of it being Tatum's team.

I loved a lot about Marcus' game, and his love of being a Celtic, and of Boston, was endearing, but I won't miss him jacking up shots in the final minute of close games.

true but they basically dumped him as if he had no value. horrible asset management. now we're being sold on Porzingas which is pure comedy

we complain about Marcus and his late game chucks but defenses were literally forcing him to do it. That in itself is a problem and having him on offense down the stretch really hurt this team (conversely having his hustle on defense really helped it)

True, but the solution there is to bring in a PG to run the offense and shift Smart to SG

Not liking/loving this deal is not simply a matter of emotions. Marcus had a down year, but was the DPOY the previous season, when the team's defense carried them to within two wins of a title.

He was also their most consistent player when it came to playing hard, something we've all lambasted this team for. Marcus certainly had bad games (maddening ones), but it was rarely if ever due to lack of effort. The Celtics too often lack urgency, but that's not true of Marcus.

And since he clearly wasn't healthy last year, are we trading him at his lowest value or getting out before everyone realizes this is who he is now? That's what none of us know just yet. So no, condescending comments aside, this is not simply an issue of "emotions versus analytics." (As though emotion doesn't count on a basketball court. As though we haven't seen this team submarined by a lack of emotion over and over again.)

I trust Brad, but I would have wanted a lot more for healthy Marcus, and if he's back to his regular form next year we're going to miss what he brought to this team. The good always outweighed the bad with him, even if the bad drove us nuts.

having Smart shoot late game 3s is on coaching. also they dont get past philly game 6 without him. traded for nothing. what a shame. Predict Tatums inconsistenty will remain even if Smart is gone

The defense vs GS was criminal and next to turnovers was the reason they lost. It should have been a five game series

Listen it didn’t take any coaxing at all to force smart to launch threes. Two things that haunt my dreams: brown dribbling the ball off his back ankle leading to a fast break and smart launching a moronic three with the entire team in motion tie the basket and bricking it leading to a fast break

When Boston Celtics Management decided to set forth an action against Ime Udoka they sent the Celtics in a downfall that will last for a few years, 5 to 10, we have already seen ONE, 2022-23.

Sam Cassell will be the Head Coach for the Celtics, but not in name or title, and Joe Mazzulla will carry the title, the name
Head Coach, and be the mouthpiece. In other words Cassell will be running the team and will be paid accordingly. That's what I think.

Celtic's traded Smart and they thought they had a deal to trade Brodgon as well but that Brogdon trade failed because he is injured. This trade plan may turn into a disaster because only half of it got completed so far. If the Cektics wind up with Brodgon on the team to repkace Smart they will have a similar year to this past one, a failure.
