Nah, Smart is and has been a problem. He thought he was a key player and acted like he was in charge. In reality, he was a defensive specialist that limited the team because he wasn't a real point guard. They're better off with White in that role by a lot.
I’ll defer to you guys here on this. I don’t wat h as much anymore. The three point shooting is boring to me. I definitely didn’t like him taking the last shot.

Lillard is worlds more valuable than Beal.
He’s also 33

I don’t think the return would be for as much as people think. It’ll be a good package for sure, it won’t be something groundbreaking. Maybe Herro/contracts and a couple late 1sts

Agree, but I think he'll still get way more than what Beal got.

(Assuming Lillard has a no-trade which will bring down his ultimate trade value same way it did with Beal. f***ing Wizards LOL.)

I appreciated what Smart brought to the team but I never had much affinity for him. The "heart and soul" takes make me laugh. We saw how weak their heart was last year. I honestly don't know if this is a good trade but it sure is interesting.

I remember being devastated when the Sox moved Nomar out at the deadline in 2004.

Ultimately, when you come close to winning the thing and fall short, in this case for a few years now, the choice becomes to run it back with small changes or take a swing at changing the mix in a more fundamental way.

This changes the lineup on the floor, but it also changes the DNA and the pecking order.

I’m fine with it. Excited to see how it pans out.

Would like to see the Bruins take a similar approach, honestly.

They got a good deal imo.

You are overvauling the intangible factor of Smart which when they were a scrappy young team that worked, its not working anymore and he won't accept his role.

I get fans tired of Smart but not buying the sell job on Porzingas who never done anything that relevant. Smart could have raised his value and been used to acquire a real talent. Rushed desperate middle of the night deal with no real thought or plan.

could see smart fine tuning his game and making the celtics look foolish, dont mind trading him but you're supposed to get talent back
Fine tuning his game?

He's going into his 10th season, and his age 30 season. He is what he is.

Smart did a lot of good things for the Celtics, but he's not the defensive player many think he is, and he's absolutely miscast as a PG. The offense, especially late game, dies with him handling the ball, and it's the reason he tends to chuck 3s, because teams back off him.

Good for for Memphis, much like Tony Allen was after he left here. But it's a trade you make as Boston 100% of the time.

Smart is also a big reason why they didn't win last year like they shouldve.

Skip Bayless is a dumbass, if he hated it, it's an even better trade.

nice job leaving Brown and Tatum out of that conclusion. Smart is obviously an easy target but he can certainly help his next team in a more defined role

What conclusion?

Tatum played like shit in the finals, and was injured. Brown was good.

Smart got cooked defensively all series after winning DPOY. He was a huge reason they lost.
Brown was probably the #1 reason the Celtics didn’t go far this year, Tatum last year and his turnovers

Im talking specifically about last season in regards to what that dumbf*** Skip Bayless tweeted that you posted.

Smart was horrendous defensively against GSW, and it was a massive reason why they didn't win, along with Tatum's injury.

but yet they made the finals and Smart helped them get there and he was shipped off at his lowest value which is the issue. I'll bet you Smart helps his new team much more than Porzingas who has never helped any team do anything relevant. Bayless was also right about Brady making Belichick look like a fool

You think this is his lowest value? Porzingis and 2 1sts is pretty good value. Smart might be on edge of high mileage, cant move laterally anymore cliff. I dont think he'll be worth more next year.

Despite his faults. Marcus WANTED to be. Here. Loved living here. Loved Boston.

Can we say that about the others? He wasn't talking about making 1st team selections all the time. Or about how he thinks he's the best player. He put his body out on the line every time. We don't have anyone on the roster like him.

It's a little disappointing.

Didn’t want to see him go, but that’s the decision they made. What matters is that the return we got for him is really, really good. Will certainly be a different team next year.

It kills me how Marco Sturm wasn't part of the 2011 cup team. He had been such a big part of the organization for their whole build up from bottom feeder to contender, but they wouldn't have been able to stay cap compliant without trading him and it was a necessary roster move for the 2010-11 season.

That's kind of what Smart is to the Celtics. He's been there so long, they couldn't have risen this far without his contributions, but to get over that hump and find the final piece of the puzzle, they had to trade him.

I cannot believe this: What a G-R-E-A-T turn of events.

Brad Stevens got a player who went from overrated to underrated in Porzingis and received multiple first rounders for player coach "team goes as I go" Marcus Smart. He probably dug his own grave by making a mockery out of the coach during the playoffs with his comments. I wouldn't have let that fly either if I was the GM.

I wish they had moved Smart when the won the DPOY award, this must have been the peak of his value. Of course he's still a fine defender, although a bit overrated (and his hard nosed style doesn't appear to age very well) and I really don't rate defensive first guards all that much.

Let's see what Stevens still has up his sleeves. I wouldn't be shocked if he were to trade Brown as well, but trading Marcus has already changed the DNA of the team.

Lowest Value???

Dude they got Porzingas and 2 1sts.

That's insane value for Marcus Smart.
