Marcus Smart was shocked by the trade. Probably cause he thought he was the captain
This. Marcus Smart was nothing more than a 3rd or 4th wheel on this team with an inflated ego. I can understand the attachment to a player who has spent his entire career here and seemingly liked it here and wanted to stay long-term but it's still a business. He took a step back defensively this year and has obvious flaws offensively. Time to turn the locker room over to Tatum and Brown. We don't need to glorify Marcus Smart and turn him into something he wasn't here. This team will not be going down the tubes because they traded Marcus Smart.

Lowest Value???

Dude they got Porzingas and 2 1sts.

That's insane value for Marcus Smart.

ever read the injury report on Porzingas? You think thats a good thing for a 7 ft player? two late round NBA 1sts? meh. Celebrate away but reality hit soon. I hope they do their homework in the physical so they dont get ripped off with damaged goods

Honestly the more I think about it the more I love this deal. Needed to show Tatum and Brown there are consequences to coming up short. We had the best roster in the league from a pure talent standpoint and should've beaten that Miami team. If either of them are upset about the trade then they shouldn't have gone down 3-0 to Miami and blown game 7 on home court.

And as a sidenote I hope the bruins do a similar "shake up the core" style trade. Show your superstars that there are consequences to blowing it. You want to have a great locker room where everyone is best friends, that's great. Gotta win to keep it together though.

I get fans tired of Smart but not buying the sell job on Porzingas who never done anything that relevant. Smart could have raised his value and been used to acquire a real talent. Rushed desperate middle of the night deal with no real thought or plan.

What winning mentality did Marcus have? When he punched a painting and cut his hand, missing months? Or when he overslept and missed a team flight to LA? Look at last year. Barely any time left on the clock he throws up a brick, and the team got lucky White was there to clean up that bad miss and extend the series vs Miami to game 7. Marcus took brutal shot after brutal shot down the stretch because he thinks he's the main show. He's not. It's Tatum and Brown. Now they get to make the team theirs, which wouldn't have happened if they kept that egomaniac Smart around. He's a clown and a blowhard.

the huck up another 3 brand of basketball is still there. I don't see a huge change in philosophy. Brown was terrible last playoffs, cant blame smart for that

Despite his faults. Marcus WANTED to be. Here. Loved living here. Loved Boston.

Can we say that about the others? He wasn't talking about making 1st team selections all the time. Or about how he thinks he's the best player. He put his body out on the line every time. We don't have anyone on the roster like him.

It's a little disappointing.

He was campaigning for that defensive player of the year harder than I’ve ever seen an individual campaign for a reward not named Joel embiid

I didn’t mind smart, had his big moments had his bad moments. Definitely can’t deny his love for Boston and he will be missed.

He wasn't annoying about it, imo. He deserved it. Unlike Tatum and Brown who want those 1st and 2nd team bids and go on and on about records. The only record I want is the winning one that brings us a Championship.

I think Marcus got that more than they do. They still have a lot of growing up to do.

I don't know anything about basketball, but I feel like I've seen enough clips of skip bayless to know if he thinks you made a bad deal, you've made a good deal.

Skip Bayless is the ultimate troll/against the grain guy. Having Bayless blast something all but guarantees the opposite will happen

A real bummer to see Marcus Smart get slandered like this by so many. Again, he drove me nuts just as often as everyone else, but a lot of hate for a guy who never shortchanged his effort. And unlike a guy we're about to give all the money, he wanted to be here and loved the city.

Also, he was a good player!

You misunderstand what I'm saying. It's not that they won't still be a spray and pray team. They will. That's what the league is now. But instead of Marcus laying bricks from 3 point land, Porzinga will be taking those shots, and he's significantly better at them.

You can go back to when he was drafted. Was not a fan then, 9 years later, still not a fan.

well he was right about brady being the reason of the dynasty and yes I think Smart will help Memphis, its a good add for that team

don't think Porzingas is one of those players that moves the needle. Not like Washington's record was great playing alongside Beal

Porzingas can affect both ends of the floor unlike Smart. He can get you 20pts a night, shoot the 3 well, and is an elite rim protector. He's one of the best in the league at defending the pick and role.

Agreed, but I think the trade makes the team better, at least for the next year or two. They tried to get the deal done with Brogdon, it didn't happen. By making it Smart, they got two first-rounders. I love Marcus and I'm with you on Jaylen, but for many, many years talent been prioritized over intangibles in the NBA and I don't see that changing soon. If Brown were the guy they could jettison and be just as or more competitive, I'd be all over that.

Depends on what your expectations are. If you expect him to carry the team, not so much. If you expect him to sit out on the wing and hit threes, he can be good. If you want him to help with interior defense, and play him with Time Lord, that's a lot of length to get past to go to the rim. And make no mistake, Porzinga is very good defensively.

But let's stop and discuss Marcus. He's been here 9 years, and they were close 2 years ago, but haven't gotten over the hump with him. You couple in him being the main voice in the locker room, and it's a problem because the leaders of this team need to be Tatum and Brown. Moving on from Smart frees up those guys to become the leaders and make the team truly theirs. You add in Porzinga and he compliments their play so much better than Smart does. The offense needs to flow through those two and with Smart here, he was never going to let that happen. He wanted it to flow through him, and he's limited offensively, so it doesn't work.

You're right. As much as his play sometimes frustrated me and everyone else, we cannot slander and deny his GENUINE love for this city. He gave 100% all the time.

We're gonna give a supermax to a guy who is a Kyrie in the making.

Not great.

Udoka set forth an action against him by sexually harassing a member on the staff. Nobody to blame but himself, and had the franchise tolerated it and swept it under the rug, it would have only made thing worse and the organization dysfunctional. You cannot tolerate a person in a position of power being abusive to people that essentially report up to him.

Exactly. Laughable to absolve the offender of his actions like Maine did. Disgusting, actually. If the choice is a title or doing the right thing, do the right thing and rid your franchise of that kind of person.
I agree with you he cause his own problem. He had gotten the team to a good point IMO, basketball-wise. For management to think they would maintain that level and improve by putting in a rookie, not ready for a head coaches job, then let 2 assistants leave giving them a shortage of 3 counting Mazzulla and leaving 2 or 3 that wanted to be with Ime. The management actually destroyed where the level of where team was at when Ime got the boot. That is my point. I have said all along that they needed a tall guy because of Horford's age and RW lack of play. So losing Smart is the not the solution. I will wait and see.

I don't think the Celtics make the Smart trade if the Brogdon trade had gone through. Although i guess maybe if they decided they wanted Jones, which would have been smart, and would have alleviated the guard gap.

They clearly need to do something to add another guard. White is good, and a very legit starter, but Brogdon it seems is a huge risk, and Prichet is just a deep bench guy. Maybe they think Davidsion can be that guy, but he is really small.
Agree, let's see if they can fix the mess they have put this team in.
