Adios Smart! Enjoy playing on the dumpster fire that is the Memphis Grizzlies with Ja Morant sitting on the sidelines as you jack up rimmed threes and pretend you're Stephen Curry while your new teammates proceed to hate your guts. Tatum, Porzingis, and Brown. Now there's a big three that can get shit done!

Now I wonder what the C's will do with Brogdon ???? NBA players are so sensitive about being included in trade rumours that Brogdon might tell Brad Stevens that he just can't see himself being happy in Boston since he no longer feels wanted by the organization. :dunno:

I think Brogdon will settle down once the team sits and talks it out with him. Yes the NBA is now a league of overinflated egos that need to be pampered like in soccer, but I think that Brad and crew will get Malcolm back on the bandwagon pretty quick.

I also wonder if Smart being dealt means it opens up a spot for someone like Begarin to get a spot on the roster now? He's made leaps and strides at Paris Basketball this past season and I know he has a contract with Nanterre for this upcoming season, but he could get a look given past performances with the team in Summer League and whatnot. Then again...I would also like to see what pick #25 turns into.

One big thing that might sway Brogdon into sticking around is that now with Smart gone he should get more minutes. He still might not start but he definitely should get more playing time.

Lost amongst all the trade talk today was the fact that the Celtics hired another Assistant Coach. Amile Jefferson ( a former Celtics player - although he never actually played for the team ) played with Jayson Tatum at Duke in 2016.

from usatoday.com:

Duke assistant coach and former Blue Devils teammate of Jayson Tatum Amile Jefferson is reportedly leaving his job on his alma mater’s bench to join that of the Boston Celtics under head coach Joe Mazzulla according to 247 Sports’ Travis Branham.

Per Branham, Jefferson “is finalizing a multi-year deal” to join the Celtics’ bench after a swift rise through the coaching ranks at Duke. Jefferson had a four-year professional career as a player after his time with the Blue Devils in which he won a national title in 2015, one which briefly had him sign with the Celtics on an Exhibit-10 deal in 2020, though he never appeared in any games for Boston.

Jefferson also suited up for the Orlando Magic and the NBA G-League’s Iowa Wolves before joining Duke as their director of player development, from which he quickly was promoted to an assistant with the team.

Here's a thought - could the Celtics package the 25th pick and either Grant Williams ( sign and trade ) or Malcolm Brogdon to move up into the top 15 in Thursday's draft ????

I never thought they would actually trade Smart.

Despite everything, Marcus was a dog on defense. We don't have anyone close to what he brought.

Idk. Idk what to think. Our defense is non existent.

I'm so sad. Marcus lived and breathed Celtics basketball. He loved living here. He loved Boston.

Can't say the same for Jaylen.

Ffs. If Brogdon doesn't have a wacky physical this never happens.

I hate it.

The question with Smart is was last year a hiccup, or the beginning of a rapid decline. Obviously Memphis is betting on it being more of a hiccup.

They gave up a lot for the player Smart was last year. Offensively Jones is a better PG.

That said Smart despite all his flaws, was clearly the heart of this team. He brings a ton of character and toughness with him to Memphis, and they can use some of that. And the Celtics didn't have enough of it in postseason

I feel like the Clippers might’ve just cost the Celtics a championship.

I thought Brogdon was so bad in the playoffs last year if they could’ve gotten Porzingis for him it would’ve been robbery.

I still think they won this trade, but I don’t think White and Brogdon are enough at the guard spot now to win a championship

The Celtics just threw their chance at a championship away. Trade the only guy who gives 110% every night and now we are stuck with a brooding Jaylen Brown and a passive Jayson Tatum.

This is Pitino level garbage

Wow, they trade Smart and keep Brown? Brown is going to burn them.
Nah, Smart is and has been a problem. He thought he was a key player and acted like he was in charge. In reality, he was a defensive specialist that limited the team because he wasn't a real point guard. They're better off with White in that role by a lot.

That's how Marcus Smart got to Memphis YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is gone that laughably overrated player is gone!!!!!!!!!
Dude has been the bane of my Celtics viewing since he first came here. Overrated is an understatement. He clashed with Brown, and if given the choice between Smart and Brown here, I take Jaylen every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Smart is a fake ass tough guy and a net negative. It's addition by subtraction.

Marcus is going to be 30 next season and wasn’t the same defensively last year.

The Celtics needed help up front with an aging Horford. Smart was the leader of the team, but sometimes that ended up hurting them more than helping them. How many times did Marcus end up taking the game winning shot? How many brain dead plays like that alley-oop from halfcourt in game 7?

I wish it was Brogdon but not devastated it was Smart. They do need to get another point guard now though.

Smart isn't a real point guard. He's a shooting guard that can't shoot, playing PG because they had a hole. While he plays good defense, it's not enough to make up for the net negative Smart was on the offensive end, especially since he thought the ball should flow through him. It shouldn't. It should flow through Tatum and Brown, and now they'll have Porizgas on the wing to hit threes instead of Grant Williams.

Smart was fantastic when he played within himself, driving to the paint & scoring, dishing the ball. However the nights he thought he was Pistol Pete drove me nuts. I wish him well, incredible defensive talent.
