The narrative among the talking heads today was you consider moving Brown to get a player who can help you win a title now, even if it shortens your overall contention window.

Interesting.

Say you could deal Brown for a soon to be 33 year old Lillard. You get the one title, but that’s it.

Worth it?
Adding Lillard isn't going to get Boston a title, so I'd say NO.

But I don't have a dog in this fight, so take that for what its worth....

Sorry but I can't Nick Wright seriously here. I'm not going to dispute that Mazzula and the Celtics coaching staff is inadequate, because they are and the staff in general is a shell of themselves. Especially when you consider the fact that this team played much tighter under Udoka and Stevens previously on both ends of the court whereas Mazzula doesn't have a game plan most nights and just sits there with his mouth open like his brain short circuited. That all being said, Wright isn't taking into account the fact that all of this would've been glossed over if the Celtics were healthy from the jump and didn't have Brogdan and Tatum go down with injuries that ultimately gimped them. Tatum going down changed the momentum of that entire game. No team recovers from losing their top superstar. I love Jaylen, but he needs Tatum more than the other way around. On top of that, there's also the fact that there was recently another referee scandal (again), calling into question the quality of the officiating of the NBA for the second time this century after the Tim Donaghy ordeal and how impartial they are (never mind if they are on the take). Everyone has seen the questionable decisions Scott Foster and Tony Brothers has made in the past decade plus in these critical games, and we are still going to bury our heads in the sand and not act as if the refs don't play a factor? That league can be more predetermined than WWE sometimes.

That's a whole lot of copium for not wanting to admit the coach sucks and the players have no heart.

Is giving a first time head coach a skeleton staff putting him into a position best to succeed, yes or no? And I won't deny the DNA of this team being gutless. I've resigned into accepting it at this point. Nothing will fix it unless there's a major change in the core, which needs to happen soon before the two Jays leave.

How anyone can say they have "no heart" boggles my mind.

Inconsistent? Maddeningly so. It's why they drive is crazy. But they've won games the last two years you literally couldn't without heart. Lazy analysis to say otherwise.

Ok, I understand. IMO Brown has always been a problem especially ball handling (turnovers) basketball IQ, driving through 3 or 4 people to make a shot, etc. He has never been able to step up in big moments when Tatum is down. Just saying.
Finals last year? I know they didn't win it but he was track to be MVP of the finals

Last year Tatum was just horrible in the finals while Jaylen was dominant and keeping the Celtics in it as long as he could, to the point where I thought Tatum was a loser and Brown was the keeper. This year, Tatum came alive in the postseason and Brown shat his pants when they needed him most.

I don't know if one is a loser and one is a winner by nature or temperament or if it's just that they're both young and inconsistent and neither can be on their game for every single playoff round just yet. That's why I'm leaning to just keeping both and building around them, hoping they can make that leap at some point.

Jaylen Brown has played in over 100 playoff games. Jayson Tatum over 90. “Young” or not, that’s a shitload of postseason experience and more than enough games to figure out what goes on in the playoffs. The fact that both continue to not show up in big games at times is concerning.

That's how I feel. I don't won't to get burned by trading one of them in their mid 20s only to watch them turn into Jimmy Butler. Jimmy Butler wasn't Jimmy Butler until he was 30. He never even made it put of the 2nd round till he was 30. The core piece that needs to go this off-season is Smart. If they could find the a veteran pg version of Al Hordford and his personality and leadership it would be a perfect fit.

Joe Thornton won a ton of games and played in a pile of playoff games...doesn't mean he had any heart.

I hereby propose that the Celtics be required to drop the stupid VistaPrint ad from their jerseys and instead have a little Charles Barkley face with a “dumbass Celtics” speech bubble.

You okay? How's your back? Must have been hard to move the goal posts that much.
hey it was your quote....if you dont like the guy say so, insteading on crapping on someone elses and try coming up with one of your own

this team needs a center and a point guard and is not winning it all until those areas are addressed

Celtics will keep both Tatum and Brown unless Brown wants out. I don't expect them to do much in reality in the offseason.

You brought up KAT! I responded to your suggestion. The f*** are you talking about?

The more I read about it, they kinda have to do this. The Celtics are the only team that can offer Jaylen a supermax contract, if you trade him whatever team gets him doesn't get that right. So that means if you are trading him it's either as a one year rental, or to a team that Jaylen specifically says he's willing to sign long term in. And both those scenarios probably hurt the return enough where trading him isn't really an option.

Celtics best option is to give Brown the supermax and reevaluate the Tatum-Brown duo in two years. Still think they should move some of the pieces around them though, I think it's probably time they move on from Smart and move Al to the bench full time.

if I was their agent Id say sign with Boston for $$$

The last thing the Celtics need is KAT. Not going to call him a loser but he's another of these guys in the league who put up big numbers but don't impact winning as much as he should.

Bigs are overrated anyway, you need a reliable one who can play defense which the Celtics have two of. Warriors won their championships starting Bogut, Zaza Pachulia and Looney, Cavs had Thompson, Raptors with Gasol and the Bucks were starting Lopez. Jokic is trying to be the first since the 3 pointers went flying to win one as the best player on the team and without another top 10 player on the roster and that's because he's the best passing big ever who's a dominant low post scorer and a roster built perfectly around him.

I think the issue is that there are times when they get beaten down so badly that this team will still turn off at times. Now...that's a marked improvement to where the team was during the Kyrie years, but there's still some of that front running aspect in this team's DNA. I like the team a lot, but I don't know if they can ever climb the mountain. Not unless everything breaks right. And that's what kills me inside as a fan.

As I said, I expected Brown and Tatum to stay. It is a no-brainer that Pritchard, & Kornet are gone, probably with Griffin, Muscala, & Gallinari. Horford should retire but may stay. IMO, RW III should be a trade. I don't think it is fair to fire the coach, but stranger things have happened to protect the person that made the original blunder. We shall see what they do. I don't expect much this coming season or won't get as excited as I did for this season. I feel the same about the Bruins and Patriots.

During the finals, I will cheer for the Heat but expect the Nuggets to win. For the Stanley Cup, I will cheer for Vegas against the Panthers and expect Vegas to win.
