People now tend to overreact and want to trade Brown for players from teams where the grass is greener. KAT is such a case, he wouldn't really give the Celtics anything they haven't had before. You could even make the case that Brown is better than most players his age.
Remember: Brown was our best player in the finals last year while Tatum choked. And it's not like Tatum has been miles better than Brown this post-season.
Listen, Brown may not be the best bet to bring this team the next title as a #2, but sometimes you have to play the hand that's been dealt. While I am a trade-happy person, sometimes less is more. A team like Philly has been so trigger happy over the past several years that they made their team worse during that process. Imagine where they could be today had they kept Butler.
Again, I am not the biggest fan of Brown, but I am not going to trade a top 15 wing-player for a soft big like KAT or a no D chucker like Trae. If I trade him, it's exclusively for Durant, Kawhi or maybe (big MAYBE) Lillard. Anything else is lateral at best, but more likely makes them worse. And if it's for a package with a high pick included (like #3 from Portland), Tatum will demand a trade.
Players I want gone:
1. Brogdon - biggest disappointment even before the ECF in which he was, despite being a know-it-all, unwilling to accept that he hurts the team when he plays with his injured hand. His defense is atrocious. He HAS to go in my opinion.
2. Smart - I actually don't dislike Smart, it's just that his role on the team is bigger than it should be. If he was willing to take a step back and accept a lesser role, I am fine with them keeping him. But as long as he's that "team goes as I go" and last second shot taker, I want him off the team.
Other players to a lesser degree. Someone I can imagine trading is Rob Williams. I like him and think he's a good guy, but he's way too fragile. If someone else loves him and was willing to overpay, I'd probably do it and turn around and get a big like Poeltl or Miles Turner.
