You do not see Hawkesbury improvement?

Hawks will not finish 12th that's for sure. They will make the playoffs. They seem a lot stronger and looking at signings, I think will be middle of the pack. Mandigo had 25 goals in 38 games in USPHL, Brochu a good pick up, Racine, the Ethier kid I heard a few teams were after including CP.
Saw a bit of their camp and they are bigger and faster. Plus with Dorval, Henderson and Nistico working together they should get some good players in! Did hear rumour they lost Brickley.
My predictions:
1- CP
2-PLK
3-SF
4-Cornwall
5- Nepean
6-Gloucester
7- Hawks
8- Ottawa
9- Brockville
10- Kemptville
11-Kanata
12-Cumberland

Mandigo played Tier 2 USPHL, not their top level, like Jr B/C.

here are my projected standings:

1-PLK
2-CP
3-Ottawa
4-Cornwall
5-SF
6-Brockville
7-Gloucester
8-Nepean
9-Hawkesbury
10-Kemptville
11-Cumberland
12-Kanata

Kanata and Cumberland will be basement teams, too many lost players to NCAA, USHL etc... Hawkesbury improves slightly and will challenge for a playoff spot. Nepean will drop slightly but should be in the mix as they always are. Gloucester seem to be on the rise after a good year of recruiting and 2 or 3 good years of drafting. Hopefully players decided to stay on board with Jennings. PLK and CP will be contenders no matter what. Big budget teams that attract many top end players. Ottawa will be strong once again. Has been the strongest city team for a few years now and they have a knack for attracting good talent despite a low budget. Cornwall is hosting the FP so you know they will be buying players but not enough to get over initial struggles they will see early in the year. They should be strong come playoff time. SF and Brockville are up in the air. They always build competitive teams but I havent heard a lot about their lineups.

Should be a great season! Let the games begin!

vs Trenton: Carleton Place - Jason Clarke - (Bench / Coach) (Bench Minor) (BM), 2 MIN, 0:00

vs Kingston: Carleton Place - Jason Clarke - (Obscene Gestures) (Gross Misconduct), 10 MIN, 18:57

Looks like OJHL refs are not intimidated by JC like all the wimps in the CCHL!!!

Unfortunate but JC is out of control with official abuse - the league needs to either talk to him or deal down a lengthy suspension or both. A gross in the preseason is unacceptable.

I don't see those calls on the game sheet, more LIES, why don't you go back to protecting RT and your 73's

No lies, that was a cut and paste from the OJHL website yesterday, it has been changed to:

Carleton Place - Jason Clarke - (Abuse of Officials) (Game Misconduct) (GM21), 0 MIN, 18:57
Carleton Place - Jason Clarke - (Travesty of Game) (Gross Misconduct) (GRM60), 0 MIN, 18:57

Not sold on Nepean this season...everyone here seems to have them 3rd-5th, but they don't have much back.

No returning goaltenders hurts them too.

They'll finish 6th-8th.

i think it is very hard to project who finishes where in this league it all depends how the recruiting goes for each team

CCHL announced earlier today that the league will be expanding to a ten-team playoff format.

Essentially, #7 will play #10 in a Best-of-3 to decide who plays the #2 seed. #8 and #9 will play to decide who plays #1.

This is a clear move to try and give more teams playoff home gates - well done by the league.

Unfortunately, it makes it even less likely that a 7 or 8 has even a slight chance of knocking off a 1 or 2.

Thoughts guys?

I think you've hit the 2 major points - as a revenue generating opportunity, it's a good way to go (certainly much less questionable than the awful cash grab that the CDHL is) and no questioning that unlike the NHL, 7 and 8 in the CC are rarely if ever going to pull off a first round upset.

Not so sure it is a revenue producing opportunity for City teams, by the time they pay for ice & refs they will be lucky to break even. If they had to bus somewhere on top of that they probably lose money. I guess you could argue by winning the qualifying series you will generate more interest for series against 1 & 2.....

Anyone else notice that the Jr Sens are playing 3 regular season home games in Rockland and 1 in Casselman this season? Doubt they stick around in Ottawa past this season - Jim Durrell is deteriorating, both in condition and attendance at Jr Sens games.

I noticed this as well! Kanata plays a home game at Sandy Hill.

CJHL Pre-Season Rankings

CP ranked 7th and Pembroke ranked 13th. What is surprising (in the extreme) is that they have the Kemptville 73's listed as Honourable Mention.

Is this a joke? Does anyone here see this team as a top 3 in the CCHL? I personally think they'll struggle to make the top 10.

From the CJHL:

The pre-season rankings are based upon a variety of factors which includes the league in which the teams belong to, last season’s results in regular season and playoffs as well as initial recruiting efforts for the upcoming season.

I like Kemptville and was surprised also, although I think a lot better than 10th. They have not played top teams but they are now 2-0 without Brown or Seatter in lineup.

By "a lot better", do you mean 7/8 or top 5. And what's up with Seatter? I hope he isn't hurt again.

I think they are 5/6 but time will tell. If all healthy they are deep up front, defense looks better than in past with good mobilty, but goaltending unproven. Watched today and new guys are legit Jr A players IMO. Lots of speed.

Early Musings

With two games left to play in the opening weekend, a few observations

  • Robinson all over Yzerman division
  • Carleton Place shaky in game one but still on a roll
  • Kemptville surprises
  • Cumberland has best start in seven years
  • Nepean perhaps not in the top half this year?
  • Kanata, Ottawa and Glousceter rocky out of the gate

Other thoughts?

Cornwall Kemptville and Hawkesbury had a great showcase.
For those who thought the Hawks would finish last...this weekend should make you rethink what they've done and they were missing their #1 goalie this weekend too and a top 4 D man.
I think CP is more beatable this year and PLK will continue to re-tool but not as strong as everyone thought. Ottawa can't score.
Oh and cchltier1fan Post 152 = Mandigo 5 points in 3 games.
