Didn't the internet run with "Perry slept with Bedard's mom" to the point it actually elicited responses? Some people will spread any kind of nonsense just because they want to watch the world burn...

It was truly crazy, and we live in a world where there are too many of us who take pleasure in other peoples pain. I think it is horrible that we gang up on people when they are at their lowest, even when they deserve it

My take is that we are going to start seeing a lot more of this from this organization. Just blanket zero info on certain issues, including chronic injuries, and chalking them up to "personal reasons."

The moment "injury" is said, the media doesn't leave the player alone about it anytime their play drops off. I think this organization is progressive in viewing player health as a personal issue that shouldn't be public, especially with chronic injuries.

This "personal reasons" label gives a bit more protection and privacy to the player from the media's direct questioning. Yeah the tin foil hats are going to go wild at first, but once we see these absences for "personal reasons" get normalized, that will likely calm down. It also creates a murkiness around the players so that if they do take leave for more scandalous reasons, the team won't have to signal anything to the media.
I don’t think normalizing “personal reasons” for actual on-ice related injuries is a good thing. If it’s injury related it’s not that hard to trace back. It’s not like “lower body injury” or “upper body injury” exposes all that much. Plus there are standard taking points like he tweaked something and wanted to be careful etc. If you hurt your knee your friends and colleagues might ask you how’s that knee every day but so what? I guess I don’t see what the big deal is if a player needs to deal with fans and media wanting more information on how his injury is progressing.

More importantly, at some point, the team would place the player on IR. An injured player whether on IR or not can still practice with the team, attend meetings etc. A player on a personal leave of absence presumably would not be and certainly if he is with and around the team it takes away the privacy arguments over simply saying the player is injured.

Personal leave of absences to deal with off ice issues (whether it is to deal with the health of a family member or otherwise) is fine. There’s no need to extend this label to on-ice related injuries.

Could be as @Wisp mentioned maybe he doesn’t fit certain nhl protocols? Or there is just our management team seems to be bad at dealing with this type of thing.
Management also seems to refuse to acknowledge Pettersson is/was hurt, even when he said so himself. It wouldn’t be that surprising that they are alluding to some level of misdirection on this either.

Miller is an absolute warrior and would not take time away unless absolutely necessary.

Hope everything is ok with him and his family. It's just hockey, after all.

He should have been on IR far earlier. Playing through significant injuries outside of the playoffs is stupid. Give me healthy JT for 75% of the season instead of crappy JT for the entire season and playoffs.

There were some completely unsubstantiated rumours on reddit about the nature of his injuries and if true, every single person involved in letting him keep playing instead of resting him should be fired, and I don't care how high that goes. Enough is enough.

Hopefully it is completely unrelated to his obvious injuries and it's a temporary setback... but that definitely is not what it looks like right now.

Is it weird that even with Miller and Boeser out and no injuries to the defense, I'm still more concerned/pessimistic due solely to the defense?

It's still possible to ice three very strong lines + a 4th line with Hoglander on it, but you're not getting anywhere if you're not able to outscore that disaster of a bottom four D

Exactly. If the Leafs can still win without Matthews; and the Oilers hold their own without McDavid, then the Canucks should be able to survive the loss of Miller and hopefully only a few more weeks without Boeser.

But not with this blueline.
