After watching the showcase, this is what I think the standings will end up like:

1.) Pembroke - Was really impressed with Dauda, Nellis, du Puy, and Tackett.

2.) Carleton Place - Seems like they lost a lot from last season but with Sturtz, Baylis, and Garvey they remain a contender. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pefley have a breakout season. Owen Grant really impressed for a rookie.

3.) Cornwall - Didn't think they were going to be as good as they were. I'd expect them to add a few more key acquisitions before they host the FPC.

4.) Kemptville - Probably have the best depth throughout their line-up in the league. Not entirely sold on their goaltending but both of them played well.

5.) Hawkesbury - Greatly improved from last season. Really like the new additions. Potter in goal really impressed me. Same with Tecce on defense.

6.) Ottawa - One of the best goaltending duos in the league. Had trouble producing offense but I don't see that being a problem in the long run.

7.) Brockville - Lack a true first line. All four lines are able to produce though and play a very 'in your face' game. Peski and Israel are one of the best d-pairings in the league.

8.) Nepean - Seem pretty average to me. It's still early and I expect them to add some players throughout the year. Wish they had more local kids.

9.) Cumberland - With a new head coach they finally seem to be getting better. A lot to be excited about with the Grads.

10.) Smith Falls - Great goaltending and added some pretty good forwards. Besides Duhaime their D is atrocious. Will get eaten alive in the Robinson division unless they improve drastically.

11.) Gloucester - Definitely one of the most exciting teams to watch. Kuffner, Foget, and Fallon are dynamite. Besides that they really have no secondary scoring. Really like Richer and Johnston in goal. Could surprise a lot of people but I just think other teams are stronger at this point.

12.) Kanata - Just terrible. I really liked Thomson on defense though and Johnston is a very good player. Couldn't generate any offense.

Where is Robinson for Kanata ? He looked great in camp but has not played a game yet ? I don't see him on any Peterborough camp lists either so I don't think he is there...

Neil - a lot of what I saw this weekend matches what you saw but we know a lot will change over the coming months so pegging final standings at this point is really only useful to start some good discussions here on HF.

Teams like Pemby and CP will be revolving doors right up to the final trade deadline and others will be looking to improve - especially Cornwall as they prep for the FPC.

My impression heading into the season was there were a few teams that had a lot of re-tooling to do and hadn't done enough in the off-season and that impression still stands for teams like Ottawa, Nepean, Brockville and Smith Falls.

That in turn has helped a team like Cumberland jump out to the start they did and time will tell if they can keep it going. Kemptville built a solid team last year and looked like they might take up where they left off and so far they have.

My biggest surprises are reserved for Gloucester and Cornwall. Gloucester had tons of offense last year and looked like they picked up some decent additions for this year but so far, they look like they will live and die in 6-5 shootouts as they did last year.

Cornwall was so quiet over the summer, I really didn't expect them to compete early but hats off to MacInnis. The team was stingy last year and they are stingy again but so far they have scored enough to be 3-0.

For the most part I agree as well. Could see Ottawa pushing into the top 4.
It is going to be a long long season in Kanata.

Yes, he still shows in the Petes Training Camp as of Sept. 2/14.

A couple of CCHL players are still on the 67s roster.

http://ottawa67s.blogspot.ca/2014/08/introducing-2014-15-ottawa-67s.html

C/RW Nathan Todd
It’s not every day you see an 18-year old selected in the fifth round of the OHL Draft, it was clear the 67’s saw something in Todd we didn’t, and it looks like they were right. Todd was one of the best forwards at camp. He’s physically dominant and a strong skater, very similar to the game Mark Petaccio played two years ago.

RW Kevin Groulx
Has steadily become bigger and more physical. He was hitting everything that moved at camp, the 67’s are hoping he has a bit more of that in him as Groulx tries to finally stick in the OHL for a full season.

C Dylan McDonald
Impressed during the pre-season last year and didn’t look too out of place in call-ups to the OHL last year. His skating improved over the summer, he’ll remind 67’s fans of Ryan Martindale.

RHD William Brown
Brown is the type of defender that you don’t always notice, but in a good way. An extremely smooth skater, especially for a 16-year old. Doesn’t play an overly physical game but is smart physically, similar game to Matt Niskanen of the Washington Capitals. He’ll play a Travis Gibbons-type role with the 67’s one day, although one would think he’ll play sheltered minutes before getting sent to the CCHL this year.

Does anybody know where Jacob Collins is playing? PLK protect, thought he'd easily make the roster this year.

Pembroke Lumber Kings should be ashamed of what they did at the home opener for the Bogart Cup Champions Carleton Place Canadians.

Any team that stays in the dressing room area while their opponent has a ceremony going on is a disgrace to themselves and the league. Holding up the opening faceoff, then not sending out their captain, once the faceoff was over the player returns to the dressing room. How soon they forgot how the Canadians sat on their bench when they held their 45 minute opening ceremony when they won their 5th championship. Just shows you how far down the team has dropped since Sheldon left. I was on the bench that year and JC told the players and staff before heading to the bench that we would sit there and watch the accolades that CHAMPIONS receive. JC kept telling the players that some day soon that will be us.

True to his words JC delivered a Championship and a Fred Page Cup championship and this is the respect he gets?

Why the league does not mandate that all teams must participate in opening ceremonies is mind boggling. They keep promoting how great the league is and they let this happen.

It will be interesting to see what happens on Sunday in Pembroke. My money is on JC and his CP team will show how classy they are. But I could be wrong and he may send out his players for a warm up and fire pucks off the glass.

We will have to wait and see.

I think we would all agree last years team was very good and that this years probably will be also.

It will be a while before most people would agree with the "classy" part, the antics and language on the bench is embarrassing. Maybe treat other teams and players with a little class and they will show a willingness to be involved.

Regardless of what you think of Jason and his antics or language, to not take part in an opening ceremony is bush league and disrespectful.
This is a team from your league that finished 2nd in Canada and brought a lot of attention to the CCHL.
If I am a member of the Lumber King organization I would be embarrassed as you not only embarrassed your organization but the league as a whole.

There is no excuse for this behaviour in the League. Classless. Shameful. I hope Mr. MacTavish has enough brains and class to apologize.

Hopefully, the GM's and owners have some balls and impose sanctions on PLK. Perhaps the hockey gods will have their say.

Jason and CPC deserve much better. It was one great ride for the team and the League.

I agree with you Eddy but the league will do nothing. They did nothing last year in the playoffs when Kemptville did the same thing, and at the end of the series the 73's staff except for one coach left the ice surface without shaking hands. Maybe that is what the league is looking for in a CLASSY organization? When push comes to shove the 73's have still yet to win a playoff game since they joined the league. Here is hoping that this year since the league has adopted 10 teams making the playoffs Kemptville may finally win a game.

Yes Jason does use colorful language on the bench but show me a coach in the CCHL
that doesn't . I have been witness to coaches and owners in this league using profanity towards officials and opposing players. So what Jason does on the bench is no different than what Sheldon Keefe, Todd Gill, Ian McInnis and many other great coaches have done in the past.

And include Pete Goulet and Marty Abrams. It is old time hockey and it makes a great coach, I guess.

What a bad example to set for your team and these young impressionable you men. What not to do ???

No excuse for PLK. They have great fans and they deserve better. Sheldon would be the first one on ice to congratulate Jason.

There is a big difference with JC, you can here f-bombs all over the rink almost every night. I refuse to take my young kids to games he is on the bench. The other coaches you mention were not even close to the same level of profanity, not to mention the constant chirping of players on other teams that he does from the bench. It is disgusting the way he acts.

Jason is on this board from time to time. Perhaps he will take your advice.

A phone call to him would be appropriate. Perhaps he so busy coaching and winning games, he does not notice. He is not like that in person.

Good thing he is the owner / GM / coach. He cannot get fired. Although he should take advice from the fans, sponsors and volunteers. He is just very intense and a good person.

Does not matter how classless someone is as long as they win...great life lesson..

I am really not sure how Jason is classless?

Does he swear on the bench? Yes, name a coach that does not. Is he loud, abrasive, tough to play for? Yes to all of that, but does that make a person classless.

I guess I would have fallen in the same category when I coached, because I was all of the above.

That being said he would not disrespect another organization like that.

Some people have an axe to grind with him, don't like him, don't like how he handles himself on the bench, don't like the language he uses, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

He has turned a Jr.B franchise into one of the more successful Jr.A franchises in Canada, many scholarships, NHL drafted player, he and the organization do a lot in the community.

I respect that you have an opinion of him, but don't expect me to share the same one or tell me what life lesson's should be.

Is he a good coach with good teams, yes, but acting the way he does on bench, swearing and taunting players, is classless. No other coach acts anywhere near as bad as he does. I can not believe anyone feels because he is winning means you should condone this behavior.
It was very interesting that his behaviour was not accepted by OJHL officials in preseason..

I do agree somewhat and perhaps JC can tone it down. He is very passionate. Perhaps you should talk to the players that are on the front lines. They love him and there are kids in line that would give their left nut to play for him. oops I swore. :)
