Kanata needs ownership change!

The problem in Kanata is/has been p/poor managment, it has only continued (gotten worse) with John Hill and his buddy Hawkins from the Nistico years.

They've had good coaches and scouts, but as mentioned earlier, what are they to do with what managment does personel wise?

Hill made a dumb trade last year as soon as he bought the team while Kanata was flirting with a p/o spot, getting nothing in return at the time (Plouffe deal) then was unable to ice a full line-up regularly going short or dressing 15 year olds, immediate nose dive in the standings.

Coaches, trainers, a/trainer and previous manager walked as a result of John Hill's dictatorship (not to mention Dewan after 8 games into this year), I think the concession guy wanted to leave too!

The writing was on the wall with how things were going to run after last seaon with Hill in charge, so two top guys went south of the border (Laburn, Myllari)

Hill then basically dumped every JrA calibre player from the roster except for Ian Johnston and Langlois, turning it into a Midget/Juvenile team at best.

If stockpiling draft picks, and thinking that's going to lead to success alone, he's wrong again, based on how he's running things now best of luck recruiting anyone from out of area to his trainwreck, nothing appealing about going there.

They've got a top guy in their Head scout that recieves no direction, no budget and is never asked for advice, Hill and Hawkins do the "scouting" which basically means attending Jr B games and acting like big shot execs, and well, we see the results of the on ice product.

If I was paying 3-5 grand for my kid to play hockey....yikes, there are better alternatives, that's for sure, I feel for the kids caught up in that mess.

They had some very good players and goalies come through only to use them to filter to their Junior B team with horrendous coaching and little to no support. The CCHL is a very good league but it is clear that Kanata and Colts are not good for the league with current ownership. They ruin players and have no concern for the proper way to operate teams and be accountable to the league standards, or is the CCHL without ownership standards anymore?

What is the issue with the Cornwall Colts coach / GM / owner ?

Cornwall has a great owner. Hes a tough coach, but gets alot out of his players.
If only IM had PLK's talent. That would be deadly.

that time of year - predictions for playoffs if they were to start today

preliminary round
Kempt over Nepean - 2 games straight
B'ville over Glouc - maybe 3 games

1st round
CP over B.ville - good series but CP will win in 5
Ott over Kempt - will be a battle - Ott in 6
Pemb over Hawk - 5 or 6 games
Corn over SF - will be the closest series - Corn in 7 games

2nd round
CP over Corn - look for Corn to get batter as playoffs go on - CP in 6
Pemb over Ott - Pemb too physical

finals
Pemb over CP - very good series 7 games - Piccolino MVP

Very good.

It will be interesting to see how close you get. I am in total agreement.

It will come down to coaching and goaltending. Picilino came through before perhaps with a few less games played this season, he will not be burnt out in the Fred Page Cup.

Jason certainly has the edge in "coaching". He has been here before.

CP Affilates

It looks like CP has released and AP'd some of the younger guys.

Does anyone know where Alex Valla, Owen Grant, Nicolas Mucci and Ryan Daniel are playing/rostered now ?

Ian has become a good coach now that he rolls more than 2 lines so let's say a rating of 'A-'. As a GM a 'B' he loves his small teams that are quick but they are small & can't compete against the big boys luckily he had Pontarelli 2 years ago.He is afraid of making moves, tries every local kid he can and doesn't react well to obvious weaknesses on his team. As an owner I don't like him one bit, doesn't pay his bills ask anyone who has worked for the Colts or has dealt with them. I have and it's a fight to get anything out of him even though he owes you money. In Colts lands it's fill IM pockets first and the running of the organization 2nd.

No team will bet CP in a 7 game series.
Also, Kemptville won't play Prelims. They will pass SF

Prelim
Nepean over SF
Glouc over Brockville

1st round
CP over Nepean in 4
Ott over Glouc in 5
Pemb over Hawk in 6
Corn over Kempt in 7

2nd round
CP over Corn in maybe 5
Pemb over Ott in 6

Finals.... CP in 5-6 max NO CONTEST! Piccolino has yet to prove anything against strong teams (gave up 4 vs Ottawa and 5 vs CP) Any body can beat SF, Gloucester & Kanata in Pembroke's net!

OK Ron. However, Piccolino already beat CP in a game 7 final in CP in 2013. He is older and more experienced and can beat the "strong teams".

PLK also has the most talent of any team in the League this season. Including CP. And if they get it together, they will be the 2015 CCHL Champions. The issue with PLK, they have to play like a team and not a bunch of (talented) individuals.

Smith Falls Question

Why is Karson McCartney now an AP and playing JR B with Athen's. He is far too good a player to have been "sent" down to Jr B ?

Its called bringing a kid through the back door.

I understand the concept, and have seen it used. But not on a player of this caliber. He's as close to a "franchise" player as you will get in the CCHL. He played as a 16 year old and is a local (Perth). Now a 20 year old I don't see him as the best candidate to do this with.

This one does not make sense to me.

McCartney was sent to Junior B, and AP'd because he's moving to Toronto in February. I think he's doing an internship for Ontario Hydro, something like that.

Will Smiths Falls still own his rights for next season OR could he go and tryout for any JR A team next year if he wanted to?

If a player is released from their JR A team, then joins a JR B team and APs with the JR A team that just released them, what is their JR A status for next season?

In the case of Karson McCartney, will Smiths Falls still own his rights for next season OR could he go and tryout for any JR A team next year if he wanted to?

His rights will remain with SF, but only in the CCHL, which means a OJHL team could sign him next year and pay no compensation.

My son is being recruited by one of the teams in the league. I was wondering if I could get an idea of what the teams typically charge and what does that cover (equipment, sticks, etc?).

We are from out of the region and I also would like to know what is normally paid to billet a player?

Any feedback is appreciated.

When the fees were introduced last year, they were set at $5000 for first time players and $3750 for returning players plus HST (13%). I believe those numbers went up by ~$250 this year.

That being said, these numbers are considered to be the maximum amounts teams can charge so you might be asked to pay less.

The fee includes the league fee of approx. $1000 and the equipment program which is another $1200 or so. The equipment fee provides your helmet and face shield, one pair of pants, one pair of gloves and six top-of-the-line sticks - at least this was what was included last year. CCM-REEBOK is the sponsor for this program so you have no choice in brand. Goalies have a similar package for a higher fee.

The teams supply jerseys, socks and a second helmet as teams follow the pro habit of having home and away helmets. I believe players also get a track suit but I'm not sure if it's part of the equipment fee or supplied at team expense.

The remaining portion of the fee - ~$1750-$3000 goes to the team to help defray expenses and that is the portion many will tweak. It is important to note that you only pay these fees once in a season so if you get traded, you don't pay again and I believe a pro-rated refund is provided if you are released.

On the billet front, costs vary too. The rich teams take care of billeting costs while most other teams require players to pay something in the range of $80 a week. This might be collected by the team and distributed to the billet or paid directly from player family to billet family.
