I guess he burned bridges:

The nationalism in mother Russia is hilarious, good for us, let Abramov do his thing in the Q and avoid the drama. Maybe its just me but the Russians who seem easy to run to Russia (Filatov, Zherdev and others) seem to blow up in a bad way pretty quickly. Or maybe I'm reaching here? Who knows, either way I am more excited than most about his potential.

Shame how politics influences these tournaments. Russians not picking abramov because he plays in the Q and USA not picking debrincat for being in the OHL. Not
Right

Whoaaaaaaaaa

Who said Debrincat wasn't picked because he was in the OHL?? And I doubt Abramov was actually left off for being in the Q, it's likely because their coach just prefers taking 19 year olds (as right or wrong as that might be).

Russia has Yakov Trenin centering their 3rd line, and he's Abramov's teammate in the Q for the past two seasons.

I watched Abramov tonight, wow is all I can say. He has IQ, passing, acceleration, speed and a shot. Also saw him steal some pucks but I think he might of ended up a minus. Gatineau won 7-4 but the game went to crap in the third, zero defence and sloppy play all around, Abramov dominated the first two periods, I havent seen anyone dangle in such tight space like that in a while, I swear he scores highlight reel goals after highlight reel goals. Just needs to be more consistent with his d game (which I think could end up being what Cam is now if he works on it) and we got ourselves a serious player.

Tharkauf in the 7th round. Abramov in the 3rd. Wow.

Maybe that PLD guy might amount to something also.

Three IIHF Junior Championship games on the NHL Network today/tonight and the CBJ game on FSO.

Will get my first opportunity to see a full live game that includes CBJ prospects Gabriel Carlsson and Pierre Luc Dubois. And of course the local guy Jack Roslovic.

Going to be a rather unproductive afternoon/evening for me. What a shame :)

Between Bjorkstrand, Kolesar, Merzlikins and Abramov in the 3rd, and Nutivaara and Thurkaf in the 7th, I'm starting to think Jarmo should just trade all his 2nd round picks for 3rds and 7ths.

Thurkauf has the right attitude towards the Swedes.

Absolutely. Period already ended...there's no reason why Dahlin should be there.

Thurkauf is a great player. Played over 24 and over 22 minutes in back to back games and is a great leader. 3 Points in two games against the Czechs and Swedes. Not the most gifted player but a good skater with a great shot. Very responsible guy who thinks the game well. Also quite a physical force already. Torts is gonna love him :yo:

I'm curious if anyone overseas has gotten to watch Stenlund much? Went from 41gp with 1 pt in the SHL, 17 GP and 24pts in the Super elite and 1 GP and 0 pts in the allsvensaken last season to 2gp 4 pts in the allsvensaken, 3gp and 3pts in the superelit and 14 pts in 24 games in the SHL this season.

If I'm not mistaken SHL is the top league right?

Looking at his numbers compared to wild Bill and Wennberg he seems to be right smack dab in the middle, outperforming Wennberg (pt wise) and behind wild Bill. I'm just curious to what the numbers aren't telling me.

How well does he read the play? How physical is he? How is he in the faceoff circle? What's he like off ice and in the locker room?

In Europe all hockey leagues are devided into two categories: KHL and all other leagues.

You have been taking your propaganda...

Estimations of how long we will enjoy of KHL ice hockey in Helsinki for example? Jokerit's KHL contract is running out in three months. Last Jokerit season made loss of ten million euros which the oligarchs would have to pay annually.

Not to mind that these oligarchs do not respect the local conditions hence turning the local fan base even more against the project they were in the begin... so I would say there are many leagues in Eurasia but I would not bet on the KHL being one of them if we expand the time horizon any further.

Unprofitable of KHL it's clear and understandable. Many team have a financial issues, same Jokerit as you mentioned, but hockey quality higher in this league than in other league.
For ex. I'm Spartak Moscow fan in the KHL and before this season my club bought one of the best Swedish goalie last season Markus Swensson and what? In this season him outplayed constant backup KHL last years. I pretty sure in the seven games series bottom KHL team will win SHL/SM liiga/Swiss league champion.

If you are pretty sure then I am certain that is not the case. Quality of life alone for example drives players to big European cities. Modern Russian culture of sports also is not exactly there with Soviet Union's program standards.

The problem is that you cannot build anything sustainable if the selected method contains only pouring money. KHL team could any moment be taken away from Helsinki yet Helsinki will not ever lose a SM-liiga team. The rivalry with Novgorod for example was 900 years ago. No one cares nowadays. Helsinki vs St. Petersburgh or Moscow is nowhere near as big deal as Jokerit versus HIFK or Helsinki vs. more minor Finnish cities continue to be. Then you have a flock of visiting towns that are not on anyone's map. Only if you have watched Ville Haapasalo's travelling shows you might have heard of them.

Say what you say but Karlsson and Wennberg have taken the same route as Stenlund. Sporting-wise Sweden's league pyramid (the most powerful structure in Eurasian ice hockey) is far greater invention than KHL's expansion which in Finland could be over before it even began.

I haven't seen Stenlund play, but I can explain about Swedish hockey.

SHL - top league. Allsvenskan - 2nd tier league.

SuperElit - top U20 league. They have two phases. One is against local teams and can have a huge difference in skill level and large blowout wins. The second is top teams against top teams and the skill level is more even.

It's hard to compare numbers because the amount of playing time can vary. Prospects can be the "extra player" and essentially be a bench warmer during the game with very little ice time. So moving up to skating on a line with regular ice time results in a significant increase in scoring.

HV71 has been a high scoring team and Stenlund has been playing LW on the first line with Erik Christensen and Mattias Tedenby. Wennberg typically was playing on the 3rd line for Frölunda - who had more depth when Wennberg was playing for them.

The stats on SHL.se don't show average faceoff win percentage, but I looked at the stats for Stenlund's last few games and he's been playing wing mostly lately. Earlier in the season he was playing center on the 4th line.

Gabe Carlsson has had a very silent tournament. Since he's a defensive dman that's a good Thing.

Was Stenlund ever considered for sweden's team? I'm starting to worry about him.
