Swiss news sites are saying, that Merzlikins team is looking for new starting goalie, cause there are rumours, that Elvis will come to north america next season. Interesting.

I'd list Jackets top 20 like this, if we assume Korpisalo is graduated (he would have been 4th).

Werenski
Bjorkstrand
Milano
Anderson
Rychel

Kukan
Carlsson
Heatherington
Kolesar
Merzlikins

Gavrikov
Paliotta
Nutivaara
Bittner
Forsberg

Zaar
Vainio
Stenlund
Hannikainen
Maletta

Edited to add Hannikainen, bumped Nutivaara.

I've got a lot of things I'd change from this list now.

Werenski
Bjorkstrand
Anderson
Milano
Rychel

Forsberg
Carlsson
Kolesar
Kukan
Merzlikins

Gavrikov
Zaar
Nutivaara
Bittner
Heatherington

Sedlak
Hannikainen
Paliotta
Vainio
Stenlund

Notes:

I don't follow the players in Europe so feel free to offer info on those.

Milano, Anderson, and Rychel I'd value pretty close. And that's Milano and Rychel falling as much as it is Anderson rising.

Forsberg is the big climber, and Paliotta and Heatherington the biggest fallers. I'll admit I didn't realize how far away they are until I saw them in the playoffs. It looks like they're years away from being NHLers and they're already 23 and 21, respectively.

I think Zaar, Bittner, Sedlak, and Hannikainen are all undervalued a bit. I'd also argue Bjorkstrand #1 over Werenski.

And who is overvalued?

Carlsson, Elvis, Gavrikov, Nutivaara....but perhaps that's because I have yet to see much of them. If you like their ceilings more, than it's just semantics.

That's a tough argument to make. Werenski and Bjorkstrand are close in effectiveness right now, and Werenski is more than two years younger.

They're 1a/1b to me. Think they both "graduate" to NHL in October so it doesn't really matter.

So, all the guys playing in Europe. I purposefully didn't adjust my relative assessment of them because it's not fair without actually watching them.

The guys you mentioned as undervalued are playing well in NA, but Elvis, Gavrikov and Nutivaara are all playing big roles in good leagues in Europe. And Carlsson is 19 with good upside. I have no idea if he's moving towards that- do we have new information on him? Until we hear something concrete we shouldn't devalue him.

Merzlikins signs a 2-year extension with Lugano. That means he's there until the end 18/19, not the end of 16/17. So he's not coming for AHL. Media reports say that there isn't a NHL release clause, yet I'm not sure, to what extent is it set in stone.

It is something that he and his agent must have talked over with CBJ as well. Would there have been place for him in the AHL if he decided to come over for 17/18? Lugano might as well 'threatened' him to decrease his role in the team. (There were rumours Lugano was interested in acquiring Berra for 17/18)

Elvis signed a 3 year deal with HCL.

Note about it said it had a lot to do with current depth chart. he'd rather play everyday than potentially play 30 games in AHL.
I understand it, just wish it wasn't a 3 year deal and/or wish he had an out for the NHL/AHL if opportunity arose.

I think folks misunderstand goalie development needs a bit. Apparently Merzlikins is getting 40-some games a year. A starting goalie in some leagues only gets 30 games. And that's actually plenty enough for development. I'd worry if it was less than 25.
