How can you rank Bjorkstrand ahead of Werenski? Werenski is almost as good as him!

I know you're just being a smart ass, but, IMO Werenski very well may be at Bjorkstrands level. What he did in the AHL playoffs was no small feat and he looked damn good doing it.

BUT on the flipside most of the whole team looked damned good doing it, so that helps Werenski a little more. All I know is I am extremely excited for training camp this season even though our biggest stars wont be there...

 Okay you got me. This prospect ranking thing would be a lot easier if we just ignored the future and went by how good they are now.

My point, having been made so artfully, is not that you're wrong. Nor that CBJW is wrong. My point is that there are different ways of weighting different criteria to come up with a ranking.

What has Peeke done to be put so high?!

Nothing! And that's kind of the point. I have a perhaps unusual way of approaching prospects, so let me explain.

Much of the value of a prospect comes from the chance that they'll seriously bust out and be an impact player. We've had some of them do that, and now they're at the top. But for the rest of them, part of their rankings come from the chance that they might do that. Peeke doesn't have any extra ability to be a high riser beyond the fact that he is younger than all of the players ranked below him. And for me that's enough. All of them have had a year or more to bust out and none of them have done so yet. I don't expect that from Peeke, and he'll probably be a lot lower on these lists in a year from now. But he has a better chance of being a high riser than anyone below him.

And this is more of a fun fact: He's the 5th highest drafted player on the list!

Going away? to the slammer or on vacation?

Some names to be considered Vaino Harrington Collins
Nope. Just taking a break from the internet. Going out and trying to enjoy summer. :)

Yep, that's why I specified my criteria.

It was a hard choice for me between Bjork and Werenski. I went with Bjorkstrand because I think he has a higher ceiling. I still think Werenski is going to be a top 4 defenseman who is a PP specialist. A very valuable piece no doubt, but I think Bjorkstrand can be a 30-40 goal scorer in the NHL one day. I think his skill set and overall body of work with his performance in junior, world junior, AHL, and brief NHL experience makes him our #1 prospect.

I doubt I know anything you don't know about him, but after watching him recently I expect him to be able to do just about everything a defenceman needs to do by the time he's in his prime. Total package, top pair D.

Vladislav Gavrikov has been called up to the Russia NT B-team for a friendly tournament in Sochi (August 3-rd to 6-th).

Hello,

saw an interview with Merzlikins yesterday between the periods for Latvia-Danmark exhibition (He wasn`t playing).

He said that he consulted other goalies in the CBJ system hearing about the environment and situation there and after that decided to stay in Switzerland to develop some more there first(i think he had a decent season last year already).

Nothing new for you guys here, probably. Just wanted to update. How are you valuing his chances of becoming an NHL goalie in Columbus?

I think Merzlikin's has good NHL potential, however, many of us over here worry about whether he will ever come to Cleveland/Columbus to fight for a spot. I think he likes the starter's ice time he gets over in Europe and that's why he signed the 3 year contract. I'm hoping in a another year or two there is an out clause or he can just leave to come here to battle for a spot.

But, we already have Korpi/Forsberg over here already both of whom are decent prospects.

The quality of goaltender coaching is very likely higher in Eurasia.

I don't know about that whether he will come part... it ain't that waterproof contract or agreement. Pay enough to Lugano and you could have Merzlikins right away although I see no haste, cutting corners.

Our most underrated prospect. I can't wait for him to get a chance over here.

Is it safe to assume that Sherwood's contract will slide (to expiring after the 2019-20 season) or could he still be recalled to the CBJ?

Also, any idea on Markus Soberg's status? Everybody else whose draft rights expired this summer has been dropped from the Blue Jackets website's prospects page, but Soberg is still there.

I actually don't know the answer to your question, but I can recall having seen people's names on that page some time after they were gone (like Brent Regner).

I think he's playing in Norway, so my guess is it's a similar situation to Merzlikins, where his draft rights don't expire since he's playing in a league without an NHL transfer agreement. No idea if that's actually true of the Norwegian league, but if it is, that might be why the Jackets still have his rights.

Sherwood off to a hot start with Flint it seems. 3g, 2a in first 2 games.
He's on fire right now, with 5 goals and 4 assists in 4 games.

It might be worth noting that the top 2 scorers in the league (with 17 and 15 points) are his teammates.

Andrew Peeke 6 games into his NCAA career and going off of the box scores it looks like he's done a whole lot of nothing. 7 shots on goal and a minor penalty, but that's it. Can't find his ice time stats but yeah.. rather underwhelming.

Maybe he's just snakebitten a bit. He's apparently on one of their PP units and Notre Dame is averaging 4 goals/game right now, so hopefully he'll get going soon.

Glancing at some stats just now and noticed Kevin Stenlund's already got four goals in the SHL this year, after only scoring one all of last year. He's been overlooked basically since he was drafted, but it's encouraging to see signs of progress.

It doesn't help that we don't get reports from Sweden anymore. We have Finns coming out of the woodwork to tell us all about Nuti and co. but the SHL prospects are in the dark.
