Any current scouting reports? I don't recall seeing much beyond "he's supposed to be pretty good" when we first drafted him. :D

Very good skater with great puck handling and passing skills. 1st pass out the zone is always on tape.

Good on the PP, can hold the blueline very well and make some nifty passes there. Hard shot but needs to improve his accuracy, especially with his slapshot.

A bit inconsistent defensively, can make some stupid mistakes with the puck and needs to gain more strength to battle with bigger players. Probably needs some time in AHL, since he has never played on the smaller rink and is coming off from an injuries.

His measuments are a bit outdated. I think he is closer to 6'1-6'2 190lbs nowadays.

Does he have plans to go to the AHL at some point?

If we're able to pick up another top-12 first round pick this year (a Rychel package?), I would love it if we could take another high end centerman like McLeod. Colorado would seem to be a good team to target in a trade like this.

Why? Wouldn't they just hope for 1 of the 3 D men

Rychel is a better prospect than any prospect outside of the top 7 or 8 in this draft. Trading him for another first is a backwards step

He was picked 19th iirc, albeit in a pretty strong draft. And he hasn't exactly lit it up since then. Try looking at this objectively. His star is fading.

Agreed...I know we are deep but not sure he's even a top ten prospect anymore.

Wennberg, Bjorkstrand, Korpi, #3, I'd say he is no better that our 5th and guys like Milano, Anderson, Elvis, could easily push him to 8th. He's probably still in our top 10 but just barely, imo.

I was thinking Puljujarvi (is it too soon), Werenski, Bjorkstrand, Korpi, Milano makes Rachel #6 at best and as of right now I like Zaar and Andy more so she drops to #8. Not as familiar but people seem to be high on Elvis and Carlsson and I am more excited to see Keegan in Cleveland next year than I am to hear Rachel whine some more.

Again...1 goal in his last 30 AHL games!

There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY Zaar is a better "prospect" than Rychel. NONE. Not even close. Just because Rychel isn't a top 5 prospect for us doesn't mean he doesn't have value. Our top 5 to 10 is better than almost every team in the NHL.

He had a great career in junior, a fairly successful rookie season in the AHL, and has struggled this year. People are counting him out like they counted out Savard, Calvert, Atkinson, Johansen, and Wennberg after they struggled early. Rychel is a sure fire NHLer, whether thats in a scoring role or bottom 6 role is to be seen, but he's going to be an NHLer. I don't mind trading Rychel, but trading him for another draft pick is a backwards step for our team now, and IMO, likely the future.

True. I have Rychel around 6th (behind Werenski, Bjorkstrand, Korpisalo, Milano, and Anderson), but a lot of clubs would love to have a 6th best prospect as good as Rychel.

Still I don't think he even goes top 15, maybe not top 25 if he could be re-drafted this year. He's been okay. It's not like all the players taken around him (Mantha, Mueller, Gauthier, etc..) have become something, but teams don't want to give up that chance to draft a guy who'll really breakout. Think of Claude Giroux or Max Pacioretty or some other late first rounder. I would have said that would be counterbalanced by the fact that Rychel is a more sure commodity than other prospects, but after this AHL run I don't know if that's true anymore.

I think it's reasonable to ask if Zaar might be the better prospect (I was surprised that they're almost the same age) and Carlsson, Merzlikins, and Kolesar could all pass him soon.

How can you say sure fire? Gilbert Brûlé had a great Juniors career too. That landed him in the KHL. I am not saying he won't be an NHLer but draft position means little. You still have to earn it and this season he has not earned it.

He must turn things around next season or the slog gets tougher. The AHL is littered with pedigree and former CHL talent.

Gilbert Brule was a small scoring center. Rychel is a big strong player who gets his nose dirty in front of the net, in the corners, and willing to fight. Those qualities are bottom 6 material (he's better than Josh Anderson, but Anderson is playing better.). He has finishing ability and some (but not alot) of vision. He could be a top 6er one day, but he could be in our bottom 6 right now and be fine, as could Anderson.
