No Weber, no Danault. That’s too much bleed in terms of losing defensive aptitude.

Habs being so bad they end up with a top 7 or so pick is a worst case scenario. Means the likes of Anderson, Taffoli, Hoffman didn’t play well.
Those 3 are secondary guys to your core 3/4. Not guys who carry the load. If your back end is suffering then your transition game won’t be any good either.

worst case is landing in the 11-16 spot which means you still miss the PO and give up your own pick.

I can't see that happening. Habs are real bad team.

Comical isn't it? Canes with all this petty nonsense. They won a hockey game. Hate to see them if they ever won a bunch of cups.

Aho offer sheet must have really burned their arse.
Canes take a bunch of crap from all angles for the offer sheet…okay
Canes take 24 hours to poke back and make a little money…not okay

got it.

Man, Montreal looks like an ECHL team out there. Kotkaniemi must be having the time of his life watching that tirefire and not being a part of it anymore.

in french, the blade of the stick is called the foot so the poster is actually correct

And why would a deflection off the end of the stick be something to downplay as a good play?

Deflecting shots with your stick is one of the basic purposes of a net front presence. And this wasn’t some blind ricochet. Kotkaniemi saw Skjei shooting, set up to deflect, and moved his stick down to knock it down. It was an intentional deflection of a point shot and a nice one at that.

it's KK he had as much chance of it bouncing off his face while hw as falling over in front of the net as he did deflecting it with his foot

It seems like having Kotkaniemi focus on making the basic plays while he gets used to Carolina’s system and teammates makes sense. Get the puck out, get the puck deep, forecheck, get in front of the net. Add more as he gets more comfortable.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because it is the exact message RBA has been preaching to every player for 3+ years. Make the right basic play. Then start getting fancy.

12 mins average. Which is a testament to how good that Canes team is. But it begs the question why sign a guy to an OS, give up a 1st, when you have no where for him to play? He was never good enough to run with the Canes top 6, this was predictable.

I can't knock the Canes, good fans and awesome team. Doesn't really matter what happens with KK, they are a powerhouse. But hard to see how KK playing 12 mins a night is good for his dev. He was playing 15 in MTL and Habs fans would tell you he was being ruined. Can't imagine when he signed the OS he was expecting to play less then he was with MTL. Yes the Habs suck but he would be playing top 6 C, 17 mins a night.

Well, I think Kotkaniemi is still playing when Suzuki&co are playing with beachballs....

That logic is weak. He went on a Cup run last year and couldn't wait to get out. While the Canes were playing with beachballs, whatever that means.

This OS was all about him having more opportunity. He can't even break 13 mins a night.

This OS was about him getting 2x the cash his worth this year and Canes getting to extend him cheaper. Dundon&Canes see something in him and want to see if he will actually develope to it. No-one in their right mind thought Kotkaniemi was gonna rip the league apart this year. Some teams actually try to develope for the future...

Montreal lucked out playing in North division. This year, they wont sniff the playoffs...

Don’t forget Kotka was ‘seething’ about his usage in the playoffs - that was some next level cringe I hope he didn’t cry

You are all over the place. They see something in him and are committed to development, but play him 12 mins a night?

And if the OS was about money, how does "getting to extend him cheaper" work in KK's favour?

So in summary, he is getting a dev opportunity that involves playing bottom 6 minutes on the wing and will therefore sign a cheap long term deal after the season. Sounds like a huge win for the player, well played KK. Playing some 4D chess

Last comment. I suspect this will be a lose lose lose. Montreal loses depth at C, which they need badly. KK misses an opportunity to play 17 mins top 6 C - hard to believe that playing out of position 12:30 a night is better for his dev. And the Canes gave up a late first and 6MM in cap space - on a player friendly deal - for a player that doesn't solve a need. Which is pretty clear based on his usage.

Such a strange deal.

You still dont seem to understand that the OS is for the future - not for now. Canes have a functioning Top6 atm, so why disturb it when you actually want to compete too? The cap is irrelevant for the Canes this season. Surely Kotkaniemi will get more minutes later on. It would be stupid to raise his value now, before an extension can be worked upon.
