Unless we put that first round pick immediately back in play, I don’t like this. The clock is running down on us using assets we have to get a real forward.

I somehow read the details of the trade wrong, don’t know what I ask thinking. I like the trade. How does this have anything to do with using assets to get a real forward? Even if we don’t put the first right back in play?
Why again do we need to buy a player out that refuses to play?
Actually you did the Leafs a favor. They can sign Marner now with the extra cash.Grats guys. Always nice seeing the leafs suffer a bit.

If I'm SJ I feel a little bit painted into a corner, really. There's going to be some pressure from the fans to let Marleau have one last go round and take a victory lap, but A) do they really want him and B) is he willing to play for what they can pay him.
I've always liked Patrick and it would be pretty cool to see him as a Cane for one season. Maybe if SJ balks a little he can be convinced to stay and TBH I think he has something to offer in a 3rd line role.
Yeah, this would have to be negotiated with him and his agent too.probably so he would waive his ntc to come here.

We do. Leafs owe us.yeah.....we don't care
Connecting the dots, I'm thinking Carolina called up Toronto on Kapanen offering up either a Brouwer/Shaw type deal outright, leveraging the extra picks, or a Teravainen-like deal, taking on Marleau to get him at a cheaper price. The Leafs like Kapanen and weren't going to trade outside of the hockey trade for a defenseman he's not worthy of (i.e. Pesce). That's just a bad trade for the Canes and they focused their attention elsewhere. Given the limited number of trading partners Toronto had to work with, Dubas and co. circled back this weekend and the two teams found common ground on this one.
I know right! Now you can actually get rid of the car and get some money to invest that in a new younger car!My mechanic did me a favor when he let me pay him all kinds of money to fix my car!
Not Free it'll cost Dundon $4 Million+Wow, looks like I missed quite a lot today! 1st is great but wish we could have found a way to get Kapanen, but it's hard to complain about getting a free 1st round pick.
Of course but we didn't have to give up any real asset except money for a first. Not often you can do that in any sport. Not Free it'll cost Dundon $4 Million+
