Prospect Info: Caps Top Prospects General Discussion Thread Vol. 2 - 2021-22

Thanks for posting this! It wasn't even on my radar.

Do the Caps have anybody in the system that will be playing in this tournament?
Quick glance, just Ryan Chesley for Minnesota. Anyone can feel free to correct me.

Mitchell Gibson is the goalie for Harvard. His rights expire after this season so it’ll be interesting to see what happens. Washington isn’t the most attractive destination for a goalie who wants a path to playing quickly with Keumper signed long term but I don’t see why Stevenson and Mitchell couldn’t be competing for a spot in Washington in two years when Lindgren’s contract is up. Aside from Stevenson and maybe Shepard there’s not a lot of competition in front of him.

Anyway, that was a long winded way of saying Mitchell Gibson is another Caps prospect playing in the tournament.

Given the retool/rebuild aspect they should trade Lindgren for picks and let Stevenson and Gibson duke it out for the backup role.

Think that makes more sense next TDL or before the 2024 Draft. Neither Stevenson nor Gibson are close to NHL ready and they shouldn’t rush them. They should see how next season goes before deciding who to keep beyond then.

Hunter Shepard seems like a reasonable candidate for backup if we dealt Lindgren.

Doh!
Thanks, Alex, I completely missed that half of the bracket. Facepalm. Who knew a 16 team tournament has more than 8 teams?

Chase Clark and Quinnipiac are also in it, but i don't think he's their starter.

Goalies need some development time even after 4 years of college and Washington has a good track record of developing goalies. In 2023-4:

Caps: Lindgren and Keumper
Bears: Clay and Stevenson
SC: Gibson and Garkin

There is a path there By 26-26 which is about right. And he’ll be competing for time and on good teams which is better than being on a shit team getting shelled.

Shame he just straight up hasn't played games in months as a healthy scratch. Awful development path thus far

Wait so Clay Stevenson is playing the entire Bears season?! That's some solid development time there!

All kidding aside... I'd expect Fucale is gone and Shepherd could be too if he wants a better opportunity elsewhere. I don't think they go young guy as Stevenson's backup in Hershey and I think they sign a vet and go 50/50 split if Shepherd isn't back. I don't expect Gibson would be thrilled about starting in the ECHL if his agent is telling him there are teams who would sign him for AHL action. I think the only way he signs here is if he's splitting in Hershey from the jump and I'm not sure we can promise that given our track record of keeping a veteran G in Hershey to mentor.

I understand what you're saying, however goalies in the NHL have their moment then fizzle. It's a short career span unless they're HoF types. Caps need to protect him.

Does anyone have a list of college prospects drafted by the capitals or free agents We should be looking for this tournament

Frozen four season :)

Didn't realize former NHLer Paul Martin is an assistant for the Gophers.

Caps prospects playing are Mitchell Gibson (Harvard), Ryan Chesley (Minnesota), and Chase Clark (Quinnipiac). Chase has only played in eight games this year and is sporting a .840 save percentage and a 3.08 GAA so I don’t think we’ll be seeing much of him.

Minnesota won today. Quinnipiac and Harvard play tomorrow.

Thanks I want to watch Minn. I want to see Chesley

His number is #71. Looks like he's on the 3rd pairing. Not on the PP. Not sure about the PK. Seemed like he'd grown in height curious if he comes to the dev. camp how he measures. Took a late roughing penalty showing some physical play.

He was on the pk last night, as he was the defenseman the Canisusisis (sp?) forward blew a shot by to get their first goal. It was a close enough play that I can't really blame him.

Did show some pleasing physicality. Sure would like him in Hershey next season...
