Makes me wonder a couple things: One that they've yet to narrow down the search and exclude candidates. Also that Shaw being more of an experienced assistant was (at least) secondarily interviewed as a potential complement to a less experienced HC like Carbery or especially Halpern. But you'd think the hiring of any assistants should be made largely by the eventual head coach rather than the GM. He's had some success developing defensemen (in STL especially) but, yeah, a pretty bland HC option.

Stockholm Sweden
Was in Tampere for the world championships yesterday and saw Sweden-France. Sandin looked good, created offense and played pretty rough with at least one big hit

One cool detail i noticed is that he is really good at getting open for a pass in the D and neutral zone which really helped the team transition the puck. Obviously wasn't against the most difficult opponent but still pretty cool.

It’s particularly weird to criticize Alexa because she has shown great improvement from when she first started. If she seemed like the type that was just cashing a paycheck then sure, criticize her. If she was similar to Gormley where it was clear he still wanted to be in Philly then sure, it’s warranted criticism.

But she’s put in the work and I think it shows.

I didn't like her at first because I liked the previous crew, however she grew on me after the first year. I believe her and May do a great job together. The Caps have one of the better home broadcast teams in the league imho even with Locker's jinxes. I'll even say it's tons better than any ESPN or TNT team option.

Great we are considered favorites for Cardbury. He knows the system and should do fine here.
Huh?

That's so confusing, do you mean like the development system or something? Would be really weird to hire a coach and keep the last guy's scheme intact

We had an embarassment of riches at the time. Trotz wasn't going to play the youngster over the Vets. Glad he found a home and gets top minutes.
Reirden, you mean but I hear ya.

Hindsight is 20/20 but when you break it down it’s not all that unreasonable to see play out. They just came off Stanley cup where their center depth was a key factor. Kuz coulda been conn smythe, Nicky was still staying relevant, and Lars was key piece. Running it back in 2019 was definitely on the table and I don’t blame them for wanting to keep that top 9 center depth intact and that squeezed CS out.

Well, Chandy was here 2015-2019 which covers a majority of his tenure. Anyway, funny how a 3rd rounder who played limited mins here excels somewhere else playing on their 1st & 2nd line...

Boudreau wants to keep coaching but, as of this week, had not heard from the Caps about their opening, a source close to Boudreau said.

It’s not clear if the Caps have spoken to Nelson about their head coaching vacancy but it also would not be a shock given the fact that he already works in the organization as Hershey’s head coach.

Colleague Pierre LeBrun reported earlier this month that the Caps planned to interview Jeff Halpern “at some point” during the interview process.

It’s unclear if that conversation has happened, but the Caps’ interest in the Tampa Bay assistant should come as no surprise.
Carbery, the former AHL Hershey head coach and current Maple Leafs assistant, is reportedly at or near the top of MacLellan’s list.

Carbery was in town Monday to meet with MacLellan, according to a league source who spoke under the condition of anonymity.
Shaw spent last season as an associate head coach on John Tortorella’s staff with the Flyers.

The 59-year-old, who handled the defense and penalty kill with the Flyers, is believed to have interviewed with MacLellan recently

Well then that logic disqualifies carberry too
That isn’t true in the slightest. He led the Stingrays as a head coach to the Kelly cup finals and the conference finals two years in a row. Shaws teams as both head coach and assistant coach have barley made the playoffs.

Shaws record can be found here:

That is a lot of no playoff results in all of those years coaching. (Albeit most as an associate)

The Caps can do better.

Those look like some good Blues and Jackets teams to me.
