The fact she literally does nothing but look at Alan May, nod profusely at his every word and smile at the camera? Yeah I do. She offers nothing of value to the pre or post game show. Find me a clip of some riveting analysis she's given. I dare you.
She’s a studio host….to be fair analysis is not what she’s there for. She’s there to tee up the segments and maintain some flow to the show.

Not her job to wow you with x and o strategy but she can talk about the game well enough to have rapport with May, and he was notorious for withering commentary to hosts who he thought were out of their element.

I bet you think it's easy and anyone can do that job, right?

I was going to say, with May in there her role is like 50% studio host and 50% lion tamer and her main talent is being able to talk about the game and tee up segments without making May shoot her the "what the f*** are you talking about" look every two minutes. I don't know if they're written prompts or not but she's plenty incisive for her job and asks smart follow up questions

Dude looked like he wanted to drive his car straight into the ocean sitting there listening to Chuck Gormley try to brute force his way through the English language.

Alexa is okay and yes I do miss Rob but Rob's been gone for some time now.

I mostly watch for Joe B and Locker. When the intermission shows come on I change the channel
You don’t want to listen to May and Alexa, but you like Locker? I would rather listen to someone ask smart questions because they don’t know XandOs than Locker blabber nonsense because he thinks he does.

The most awkward part is when Koken calls the Caps out for a sh*t*y game and May starts telling Koken he has never played the game and comes up with excuses for bad performances.

If he gets offerd the NYR position, no way he comes here.
I wouldn’t be all that worried about the Rangers. It's a pretty safe bet that if they go for first-time coach, it's going to be promoting Kris Knoblauch from Wolf Pack.

That being said there is still a chance for Q or Laviolette if they take the veteran route.

Leafs are the team i'd be worried about. I think Capitals have good chance to convince Carbery to join them instead of the Ducks. Leafs on the other hand are a tough sell. That being said i find it hard to believe they risk going with a rookie coach with their upcoming free agents. Good old Laviolette might be able to help us here.

Alan and Alexa don't have the same job. Just like Joe B and Locker don't have the same job. Alan May's (and Brent Johnson's, especially re: goalies) job is to be the hockey guy. Alexa's job is to tee up his commentary and move from segment to segment. If they both were trying to do hockey commentary it would be chaos.

There's a reason that all sports shows are structured this way: a journalist who hosts the show, moderating the discussion and keeping the segments moving, and a selection of former players/coaches with expertise in various aspects of the game provide the insight. It's a formula.

One could argue that the host's job is the hardest one on the panel because it's basically "herd the cats." Alexa does her part well and is being recognized for it. That anyone would be butt hurt about that is frankly bizarre.

Ah chuck gormley. Still can’t believe they let that man speak on television
I'm pretty sure they let him learn to speak on television. It was the strangest thing I've seen them stick with and the sheer loathing from Alan May was so palpable it made me almost as uncomfortable as watching Gormley struggle to begin with. Just... very upsetting segments between them, like 70% of the time.

I notice you've given up even trying to make a mature, intelligent point.

Why don't you tell us what job you think she's suited for?
You're taking this really personal buddy. Straight to the personal attacks when you didn't agree with me but somehow I'm the one who isn't mature or can't make an intelligent point. Let's move on and get back to Capitals stuff.

It’s particularly weird to criticize Alexa because she has shown great improvement from when she first started. If she seemed like the type that was just cashing a paycheck then sure, criticize her. If she was similar to Gormley where it was clear he still wanted to be in Philly then sure, it’s warranted criticism.

But she’s put in the work and I think it shows.

Her early wobbliness was probably due to her having to learn hockey after coming from a background in soccer as a player at the national level then football in broadcasting. She's been at this for ~8 years and was a self-starter in high school before earning her degree in it.

I only know this because this conversation caused me to look up her background and it's even more impressive than I thought.

So yeah, big fat "L" for the hater today.
