Obviously you insta-do 8th & kuzy for Matthews lol.

Even if you ”dont like the player” you can easily flip him elsewhere for a much bigger return, that he easily is worth of.

Reminder that TJ Oshie was a postseason dud in St. Louis before shining in DC.

That should be the type of trade Washington should be pursuing again: acquiring an undervalued talent for dirt cheap because of lack of postseason success.

Maybe a trade for Marner and Matthews ends up not being possible. But they should certainly be checking in.
We would have to give up Wilson for one of those dudes and I still might do it

Would we do Kuz Wilson #8 pick to the Leafs for Mathews or Marner?

Health permitting on Matthews I don’t even think twice before I pull the trigger on your proposed trade. He won the Hart last year and even in a down year he scored 40 goals and was hugely impactful.

Marner is slightly more interesting but again he’s been one of the top 5-10 impactful forwards in the NHL in the past 3 years. I make that trade all day long.

I doubt Matthews will be available but I can see Marner being available and I can see Wilson + 8th overall being a price tag Toronto would think long and hard about given their perceived weaknesses.

Hawks fan here. What is the general consensus on a Mantha cap dump? What would y’all feel comfortable giving up?

Nothing. He can rot until next year. If he stays most likely he’ll fake an injury or head to the locker room when disinterested.

I think it's important to remind everybody of this fantastic news:

Blaine Forsythe will NOT be returning. Woo hoo!!
Huge news indeed.

I am keen to see how he plays under a different coach with the Caps. I don't have high expectations but we shall see. Mantha is to blame for most of his struggles but Lavi played a role as well (bad line combinations, playing him on the wrong wing, etc)

I draw similarities to Sprong. Lavi gave up on him because he didn't play a two way game, but it was obvious to anybody who watched that Sprong is a goal scorer. He gets an opportunity with the Kraken and has career numbers (21-25-46 in 66 games).

Interestingly Sprong has been awful in the playoffs. 10 games and 1-1-2. Looks like he's been scratched the last couple of games.

I believe he’s injured

I don’t understand packaging Kuzy and the #8. Ones an asset for a contending team and the other for a rebuilding team.
Because a package like that is an option to upgrade on Kuznetsov.
A contending team can either use #8 in a trade or just bypass the side effect of competitiveness and draft high, adding a strong prospect and possibly extending the window of opportunity.
I can't imagine saying no to Matthews or Marner at that price btw.

I hate to say it as I want both gone but I really think the only way the Caps can compete is if they keep Mantha and Kuznetsov and hope they rebound with a new coach. The only other way is if they are able to get a very advantageous trade but both players have a lot of warts, so I’m doubtful on that.

The UFA class is pretty awful this year which ties their hands I think in moving them and trying to compete.

The Backstrom issue is the even bigger concern. I can’t see him rebounding under any scenario. Sad to say but they need him to LTIR.

Seems like an overpayment.

I just nearly fell off the toilet laughing at the idea of a contending team making a play for Kuznetsov.

Rather keep the pick.

If Matthews has interest in coming here, just throw him some extra money when he hits the FA to make it happen and keep your assets.

No good UFAs? We have Mantha to offer...
