Just what the Caps need, another often injured player. No thank you.

Would you really say no to that trade?

I'd want an extension in place to make it make the most sense, but uh you are seriously overvaluing that 8 pick unless you have some inside knowledge that Matthews is permanently broken.

The last few years he has been injured more and more often. I also probably don’t like the player as much as other people. I find his game soft. It isn’t about the assets we’d be giving up, it’s about the player.

Also, the Leafs would never accept such low value so arguing over a hypothetical trade that would never happen seems silly.

So you would make the deal as presented….lol….

8th and Kuzy for Matthews?
not enough for the Loafs….

Of course not as previously said, with an extension/agreement.
Oh I guess I missed that on the last page since it sounded like it was a sticking point for twabby up above. In that case I guess but I don't really see it and I also don't like the guy as a player or person very much, so it's a tough sell for me.

I can't put my finger on it but it seems like a questionable locker room dynamic too, I think Ovechkin likes being the big dog enough that another Rocket contender in the room is, like... not outright bad but maybe a little weird.

Late game needing a goal you almost have to play them both because you can't really leave one on the bench, and then hope that one wants to pass to the other and hope they see eye to eye on which guy truly had the better chance in the moment.

I just agree with Twabby‘s point about an extension being needed.

He definitely has a douchey vibe…..hard to like, but also can’t ignore the talent.

Let’s just say, I would not turn it down but I hope for something different. I doubt Ovy would have a problem passing and likewise AM. You would find a way to make them work.

In that sense sure. I wouldn't really be thrilled but it's a tangible upgrade over Kuznetsov and prime talent to work with.

I'd just... yeah, somebody else would be fine too.

Rather get Marner from the Leafs. He pretty much got Matthews the 50 in 50 and would be perfect for Ovi's final years. Very underrated because he doesn't bonk people in the playoffs despite having outstanding numbers that have only been going up. Plus he has 2 years on his contract

No point in getting another goal scoring center when the goal scoring already runs through Ovechkin, plus Matthews is also gonna be more expensive in every way. O'Reilly is the only C from the Leafs that makes sense given the center lineup we have already.

Right. Dude was a complete no show in the second round but go for it.

Yeah 14 points in 11 playoff games is absolutely nothing, he should be more like our scary physical guys that are always super reliable at getting other teams to take runs at Ovechkin, Backstrom, Oshie and Carlson.

Reminder that TJ Oshie was a postseason dud in St. Louis before shining in DC.

That should be the type of trade Washington should be pursuing again: acquiring an undervalued talent for dirt cheap because of lack of postseason success.

Maybe a trade for Marner and Matthews ends up not being possible. But they should certainly be checking in.

they also traded him because he was sleeping through practices and pretty much got the reputation of a slacker at the time. The trade had all the hallmarks of "get this dude off the team for the first thing offered up that we can maybe use" like Minnesota's Niederriter for Rask trade

Uhhh that’s not how I recall it…..Old Hitchcock won….didn’t like Oshie‘s game, butted heads.

I was referring to this, and I think there was at least one other incident as well but I can't recall it

Oshie's time with Blues was a seesaw, he had huge hype early on with the Perron-Berglund-Oshie kid line, then a Kuznetsov like trajectory with management, then got a ton of hype after his Captain America shootout showing, ultimately ending up getting dumped for a year from UFA Brouwer. In DC he pretty much immediately reinvented himself as the opposite of what he was in St. Louis in many ways
