Sandin, Carlson, Orlov, and TVR all in the top 50 of this measure.

Even if they don’t re-sign Orlov they’ll have a good enough defense entering next year. I think they should be looking at TVR in the top 4 playing his off side. He’s more than just a bottom pairing dude IMO.

Sandin-Carlson
TVR-Jensen
Fehervary-Alexeyev

Maybe the third pairing is a bit weak but the top 4 should be enough to allow them to be competitive. As mentioned before I’d take a flyer on a third pairing guy in the hopes of finding the next TVR or Gustafsson and look to include Fehervary in a trade for a forward.

Not true….the others I listed do as well.
Leach doesn't have the team connection like Carbery, which has seemingly big sticking point in Ted's hires in all his sports teams.

Sturm played like 20 games for us, I guess you could count that as a connection but I'm not sure I'd count being a National Coach to the same as coaching in the AHL or similar league (and as far as I can see, he's only been head coach of the German team).

Warsofsky was it the Stingrays that's the connection? He probably fits, though I think Carbery's success still greatly outshines his.

Vincent has the coaching, but not the connection.

For the record, I'm not claiming any of these guys are worse then Carbery, or really anyone, as candidates. I won't speak to the quality of any candidate cause I'm completely fine admitting I just don't know enough about them. All I'm saying is if you did a bucket with what you'd assume the team's looking for, Carbery's basically the only guy that checks literally every single bucket. A few others come close, but he has that one step ahead.

We also got some more on Kuzya from Sammi.

Not surprising. Anyone can see Kuzy has checked out and has for a while.

Time to move on.
Reading the article, it's so weird to me. She implies that they could probably do swaps for someone like Compher or Scheifele but then implies they'd probably have to retain on his salary or pay extra to unload him?

I think the hardest part is just that Kuzy probably has more value to us then he does to any other team, so they'll be "losing" any trade they make.

Yeah it’s one thing for fans to tire of Laviolette but a $7.8 million center should still be putting in the work even if he doesn't like the coach.

It’s not like Kuznetsov was in the doghouse for the last 2.5 years of Laviolette either. He was given more opportunity than he deserved in my estimation. I think it’s time to move on and take the best offer available. I’d rather give McMichael 2C duties and see what he can do with it than hope Kuznetsov decides to care under a new coach. Of course option 1 is to acquire a new top 6 center but I’m not sure if they’ll be able to swing that this offseason.

I've said it many times, but Kuzy doesn't strike me as a guy who mentally NEEDS to play hockey at the highest level possible, or for that matter to even play hockey at all. I think I've speculated as much about Mantha, too.

Some guys coast on natural gifts. Yeah they put in the bare minimum coming up and maybe have suffered a few times but they don't have the undying fire in the belly.

Ovie has it. I think Oshie has it. Wilson has it. Backstrom has it hidden behind Swedish manners. And there are a lot of gritty guys who have it but lack the natural abilities.

It just seems like wasted talent when a guy needs everything to be perfect and nice and pretty before he'll put out, but because life is never like that he shuts it down instead.

While it wouldn't surprise me if those quotes accurately described Kuzy, note that some sites which contain the exact same language as Sammi's article on THN state that they were translated via Google Translate, which is spotty with Russian. (In my job I frequently encounter Russian language things, and I work with 3 native speakers of the language so I've seen the discrepancies.)

I'd be shocked if these articles all just keep randomly mistranslating to exactly what seems to be happening.

Ok, I will translate it for you as good as I can (will drop parts mind you).

Kuzy is not from disciplined men category. (Speculation) I feel like if Kuzy doesnt have fun at work he will seek for opportunity to make it more comfortable. And he doesnt have fun at hockey right now. And he is disinterested because of that. Already wants to change team for some time, he is tired in Washington.

Also Lavi's hockey is a factor, Lavi's commanding the style of play that isn't natural for Kuzy.

[Then answering about Kuzy's gradual regress right after the cup says] cocaine event had some impact, national team problems and so on, but its not like "life sucks" overall for him, just needs a change of scenery. His family and kids are good, and hes good overall, but doesnt have inner fire for hockey.

He better change teams to have fun out of playing hockey again.

..

Hence I would trade TVR and make AA RD temporarily :D

You think Oshie has it? Oshie has the heart of a Lion!

He'll come back from a concussion playing with more heart than anyone.

Sens fan here with two questions

1) would Washington be interested in DeBrincat?
2) Separately, what’s the latest with Wilson - contract extension or will he be moved?

I'd be happy to have DeBrincat.

I am hoping that Wilson will be our next captain.

Hawks fan here. What is the general consensus on a Mantha cap dump? What would y’all feel comfortable giving up?
I think most of us feel fine keeping him to see his approach under a new coach rather than pay an asset to unload him. Or if they do move him, make it a hockey trade of some sort.

We talked about Debrincat before but Probably wouldn’t be able to get the most out of his skill set considering Ovi and Debrincat play the same-ish spot on the PP.
