Team composition and coaching are both subpar compared to top contenders. That's no secret. They are an ok middling team now. When they are on, they can hang with most teams, but don't have the talent to do that consistently anymore. Curious where everyone is on some questions:
If the Capitals miss the playoffs, are injuries enough of an excuse that Laviolette gets one more chance? Does he finish out the season regardless of performance? Is there a scenario he's let go mid-season?
If Connor Brown was healthy, how many more wins do we think this team would have? Even though their injuries were known before season start, where do the Capitals sit if they had Backstrom and Wilson the whole year?
How safe is Brian MacLellan? I'd imagine if he starts extending players or makes impactful moves (buying or selling) near the deadline it could indicate he's not going anywhere. Does he still have the authority to make big trades or signings? How many coaching hires does he get? Seems like the average is around 2-3 league wide. Does the Cup win buy him more time with ownership? Does it buy more time with fans?
How many free agents are they prepared to just walk away from?
Wonder why Pell is leaving, she seemed fine
Yeah, I thought she was pretty good. Hopefully her replacement is decent.
