Rather ship out the coach. Kuzy could have won a Conn Smythe under Trotz. Since then, this team has been coached by dipshits.
Take off the fan blinders…..Kuzy plays hard/well when he wants to…which is about 20% of the time…no coach changes that as has been proven multiple times. We‘ve seen his best and those days are over….

SHIP HIS ASS.

Sorry, calling bullshit here. He’s a 30 year old man who has played in 800 professional and junior games over the course of a 15 year career. This is his 10th season in DC. He’s played in 14 international competitions over a span of 10 years. He’s being paid close to $8M/year and is expected to be a leader on the team. He needs to be a professional and play like he’s paid to play or he needs to go.
Damn straight, “rack him Jim”….

Look, I just think before we do anything crazy, we need to address this lame duck coach.

Get rid of Laviolette at the break, and bring in an interim.

Moving Kuzy probably happen, but better over the Summer.

Lose by 4, make no changes.

No Protas, no AA.

Laviolette is dogshit.

The coach may (or may not) be an issue…..the player is a confirmed one.

It’s past time to do something drastic, and ship him out. I don’t care when it’s done (Kuzy trade, sooner the better) but Lavi is going nowhere in season IMO.

Team composition and coaching are both subpar compared to top contenders. That's no secret. They are an ok middling team now. When they are on, they can hang with most teams, but don't have the talent to do that consistently anymore. Curious where everyone is on some questions:

If the Capitals miss the playoffs, are injuries enough of an excuse that Laviolette gets one more chance? Does he finish out the season regardless of performance? Is there a scenario he's let go mid-season?

If Connor Brown was healthy, how many more wins do we think this team would have? Even though their injuries were known before season start, where do the Capitals sit if they had Backstrom and Wilson the whole year?

How safe is Brian MacLellan? I'd imagine if he starts extending players or makes impactful moves (buying or selling) near the deadline it could indicate he's not going anywhere. Does he still have the authority to make big trades or signings? How many coaching hires does he get? Seems like the average is around 2-3 league wide. Does the Cup win buy him more time with ownership? Does it buy more time with fans?

How many free agents are they prepared to just walk away from?

Wonder why Pell is leaving, she seemed fine

Yeah, I thought she was pretty good. Hopefully her replacement is decent.

Why do you think wapo continually hires young women right out of college to be the Caps beat reporter? The pay is shit. I'm betting she's leaving for a better paying gig somewhere.

Pretty much. Getting to work a beat for a publication like The Washington Post is a great opportunity for a young writer. Chelsea Jones, the old Nats beat writer, left the Nats beat to lead the traveling coverage for the Political section of the WaPo for the 2020 election. Isabelle won awards for her coverage of the war in Ukraine. Tarik is still here just in a better paying role which is great for us.

I actually have no idea what Katie Cerrara is doing. Maybe she got married so she has a new name but I can’t find anything about what she’s been up to since she left the Caps beat with that epic dunk on McPhee and Oates.

What about trading for Tarasenko? He’s just coming off an injury, is over 30 - so he fits the team’s profile.

But seriously, with Meier probably a pipe dream (who will more likely end up in NJ, CAR), how about Tarasenko, at 31, extended on maybe a 4 year deal that covers the rest of the Ovi era. He’d require less term and be cheaper than Meier. Added plus - maybe he’d like the Russian clique in DC.

They would finally have another legit 30 goal scorer (when healthy). And someone that can really shoot from the right circle on the PP.

We missed the opportunity to get Tarasenko for almost free in 2021.

In reply to @g00n from the GDT:

Oh, xGF. Right. Imaginary numbers.

Go look at his actual points production and game film from the last 2 years.

He was clearly a net positive for the team as a playoff force, and iirc there was at least one series where the team fell apart after he was hurt (Carolina?).

He and Nicky both are here for the payoffs in the playoffs. Not whinging about theoretical stats in the regular season.

His production has been good, as I mentioned. I just don’t know that it’s indicative of future success in the postseason given that his on-ice goal numbers haven’t been good, on top of the poor imaginary numbers that us in the complex plane care about.

Oshie has now also discussed a nagging back injury stemming from his foot injury last year. I find it hard to see an oft-injured older player with a bum back being effective in the future given his current level of success is mixed.

As I mentioned I have no desire to see Oshie traded at the TDL. But as an offseason move I think they probably need to go a new direction.

I’ve totally been thinking about him also….injuries give me pause….

Why trade for Tarasenko when you can just sign him free potentially to a free agent. Team friendly deal. He might want to ride shotgun for Ovechkin beating the goal record.

But this is the same GM that traded a second round pick for Kovalchuk weeks after being on the waiver wire for free… so who knows
