Man what shitty results for the average fans. Getting squeezed financially for everything that used to be free and now we are completely losing access to information because greedy assed owners don't want us plebes to have it?

Just more bullshit behavior from a league that can't get out of its own way. This information shouldn't be privatized. The league can't allow this to happen

Not sure what owning it and taking it offline does instead of just.. using it for free or paying a Sr dev to make you a custom UI that pulls from it's API.

Like I straight up don't understand the value of buying the site and then shutting it down to everyone when they could use it for free.
There legitmately isn't any. That infrastructure could be recreated with about a few months' worth of paying webapp contractors, of which there are about eleventy billion out there all looking for work. That isn't the part that's actually valuable, but that's the part they paid for and they're effectively discarding the rest.

Everyone hating on the Caps should realize the Capfriendly guys are just as if not more culpable.
I'm sure their enterprise was viable as it was and they did not NEED to sell. But they took the payday. Many such cases.

Good for the owners who developed a website and a tool that NHL organizations used and were able to sell it to one of them

good on the capfriendly guys for getting paid, they deserve it. still f*** the Caps. the NHL should be doing this deal not a team for their own benefit.

Someone will just make another or traffic will shift to another existing site. Weird move by the Caps tbh. Every team should have all this info at their fingertips already.

You want the NHL to run CapFriendly when they can't even figure out a simple stats page?

LMAO.

This is odd to me, I figured there was a database for contracts the NHL already used. Not a website

How did u come up with this anyways? no they pay and buy the people who currently own it. Im assuming the guys that run it and coming along for the ride with the Caps.
but the NHL should be the one buying this and keeping it the way it is for the fans

So you’re more upset with the NHL or the Capitals?

This is a major blow to hockey fans.

Yes there are some other sites that have some of this info out there but I'd imagine quite a few of them actually use capfriendly to keep their own databases up to date.

It's not only going to take someone with the know how to build a site like this, but also have the connections they did to keep it up to date.

Not only that we lose a tonne of the tools that they have introduced over the years. Depth charts, draft pick tracking, trade tracking, explanations on the cap, arcmhair GM, mock draft sim, trade proposal sim, scouting reports, contract comps.

There is a boatload of things CF offers that it's competitors, which are few and far between, don't offer.

A dark day for hockey fans everywhere when this site goes dark.
