That's some conflation that is pretty pointless.

Buy CapFriendly in revenge for a civic issue. Likely less than 40% of your average hockey fan has even even been to CapFriendly once in their life.
I’m not being completely serious.

The NHL's new and as yet unnamed expansion franchise made another key hockey operations hire Monday that might be a bit unpopular with hockey fans everywhere. That's not being negative, it just speaks to how important Tom Poraszka has become to hockey fans and media.

You may not know Poraszka's name, but if you're a hockey fan, you know his website. GeneralFanager.com came in to fill a major void left following CapGeek.com founder Matthew Wuest's death after a cancer battle. Providing accurate, speedy salary cap numbers for every player and team was an invaluable service for many hockey fans and pretty much everyone in the media.

However, following Monday's announcement that Poraszka had been hired by the Las Vegas franchise, it means General Fanager is no more. The site only has one live page currently. It is a goodbye message from Poraszka, who was running the site essentially as a labor of love.

this isnt the first time an nhl team has done this. the site before capfriendly was basically bought too

Good outcome for the guys who started the site, nice win. Would expect someone to build a similar framework relatively shortly given the outcome, obviously some money in it. Weird teams don't invest in this stuff in-house.

did you all say that when vegas bought the site before capfriendly?

No, because I didn't use that site and wasn't aware that it was happening, but I would have said it had I been a user and known about it at the time

my point is, whoever makes the new site is going to make a lot of money. just make it and sell it. nhl teams will buy them

I don't know how that was your point when you said this lol
it is, because its going to keep happening. a site is made, sold to an nhl team, people complain, a new site comes up, people like it, its sold to an nhl team, repeat

If Capitals fans had any gumption whatsoever they would boycott their team until this is undone
They were several teams trying to buy them so if the Capitals didn't then another one would have purchased them.

Make my day.
Now we have until it goes dark to see what happens with new contracts and whether they appear on capfriendly as accurate or even not at all. Teams won't want to be filling the caps private DB.

I've never once visited or used CapFriendly. This changes absolutely nothing in my life. I'm still livid.

You should have. It's an incredibly useful tool. Beyond just being able to see every players contract and every teams roster of contracts for the next six years, they also had some really cool tools for building your own teams, keeping track of the draft and trades, calculators for buyouts, offer sheets, qualifying offers, etc, as well as a ton of info about the CBA and how contracts work. And still so much more.

Maybe the next site will have the same stuff, but I almost never post here without using CapFriendly in some capacity.
