Nothing wrong with pinching.

Pinching at the wrong time is the issue.
Giving away the puck when pinching.
Trying to force a play that isn't there while pinching.

I don't believe the Leafs have had a true number one defender since ... Salming?

Heck, I'd love a Kaberle.
Re; Salming
Hmmm I think you are right. Damm and ever since the Roger Neilson daya we've never been a good defensive team. Ok maybe slightly during Burns days.

They’re best players are still young though. The part that worries me is how old their defense is. It was one game but they looked slow yesterday.
Yeah. I said it last night too, but I couldn't believe how done Muzzin looks.

And Holl continues to be a train wreck. No hockey sense and seems like he is always out of position. He should be put in front of the net on the power play because that screen on Murray on the game winner was textbook.

I agree with this. Effort was fine but the mistakes were unacceptable even for early season.

Hmmmm that’s an artificial distinction. A high energy, focused, determined and purposeful game is all part of what makes a “professional” team effort.

Playing hard, dumb and sloppy isn’t the most commendable team trait.

Lindgren had a great season last year. From what I have read here, Blues fans were not happy he left.

Lindgren only played 5 games for the Blues but his small sample size was none-the-less quite impressive.

Truthfully, as I did not expect it whatsoever, when I read yesterday that the Leafs were the fourth oldest team in the league I was floored.

Yes time catches up but it makes sense. Our core are all in their primes and most of our depth pieces are over 30

Scary thing is they aren't that old, Habs just made them look like they were.
Who knew that young kid Gallagher had such blazing speed?
makes you wonder if their legs were heavy last night. Last year with Mik in the lineup i thought they were slow, but last night was really bad.

Leafs were 32nd overall last year in 5v5 sv% and that points to system and goes beyond simply blaming the goalies. IMO

Yesterday a team coming out flat and unable to expose a young and weaker opponent on compete level as well as Keefe claiming the team hung Murray out to dry also points many fingers his own direction.

Leafs dmen often join the rush and ill advisedly pinch at the opposition blue-line which surrenders odd man rushes against and goals against. Cole Caulfield yesterday could have outscored the Leafs on odd man rushes alone, and was the reason Keefe claimed the Leafs hung their goalie out to dry.

So are Leafs dmen following coaches game plan instilled or are they free lancing, because if they're given the green light to attack, then you can't blame them that they're not defending properly when you push offense and then pay for that aggresive game plan defensively.

A Barry Trotz "defense first system" would be an organizational change in mindset.
A couple of times I saw Muzzin wrecklessly pinching deep into the offensive zone. With his speed?

And their two young D men were never allowed to get better in the nhl and are just now learning the game as the core reaches their prime.

C’mon, a 12 game sample is the measuring stick, you know that. G

I am just watching the highlights from last nite. I think I figured why the ice changes the hue from red to blue
God that was so annoying. i thought my TV was automatically adjusting the tint via some sensor. It wasn't till the 3rd period that i realized it was actually happening in the arena.

What was up with the ads changing on the boards? I'm guessing that's one of those superimposed things that shows up on TV like the first down line in football (?)

Agree. And I still feel they were out-efforted at some key moments in the game.

It's 'always' been there, but it was more pronounced last night for sure. There are a couple other rinks that have the same issue (Denver I think is one). That ring of LED lights at the base of the 200 level plays havoc with the viewing experience. I dislike it, always have.

The Leafs will probably win tonight, but I say whoop-de-doo. Prove on a consistent basis that you can beat teams like Montreal, Buffalo, Ottawa, Arizona, and then I will be impressed. Let us wait 20 games to make any serious judgment on this team.
