The Leafs will probably win tonight, but I say whoop-de-doo. Prove on a consistent basis that you can beat teams like Montreal, Buffalo, Ottawa, Arizona, and then I will be impressed. Let us wait 20 games to make any serious judgment on this team.
The Dodgers lost a series to the Pittsburgh Pirates this year. Just sayin'.

Overall a sloppy game from both teams last night. I don't think that either team handled the puck well and the neutral zone play was rough to watch. Kinda looked like.... how the first game of a season would look.

I think overall, I'm going to like the 4th line and the depth in the line-up. Having Kampf on that 4th line just provides another level of depth.

Looking forward to a Samsonov redemption victory tonight.

Waive does nothing ,, they will need a trade . Kerfoot or Engvall ,, Holl is not going anywhere.
In a close to worst case scenario they could waive either of those guys

I have about as much expectations heading into this game as I did heading into last nights one, pretty much zero expectations. It’s just hard to get excited when they stayed status quo and have absolute dog water defense such as Muzzin and Holl, It’s hard to get excited. Samsonov? He’s never had good numbers in his career, so what’s to get excited about this new goaltending duo? Murray was about as awful as I expected him to be in game one, I expect no difference from Samsonov in game two.

Maybe another loss will speed up the inevitable and fire this inept status quo management group.

Connor McDavid with the comeback hat trick in game one against Vancouver, where was Matthews and Marner last night? Absolutely invisible is where they were.

My excitement levels for this season are at an all time low, this team has zero chance of getting past the first round, hell, they may not even make the playoffs with how awful they look. Negative? You’re damn right I am, I’m not going to sugarcoat mediocrity and status quo, not me, not ever.

Thank god someone is brave enough to stand up and speak truth to power.

Your move, people who are positive about their team on an anonymous hockey board.

I'm not sure how often its been said the last few years but the team needs to start on time.

I'm not sure what the pregame plan entails but it isn't working at all

A couple of times I saw Muzzin wrecklessly pinching deep into the offensive zone. With his speed?
Its because the coaches are telling the defenders to be active, pinch in deep, add that extra man to make coverage hard etc. That system doesn't bode well when your entire defense but like 2 guys are sub par skaters.

Leafs seem to be getting slower year on year

Their first period was pretty good for the most part, at least until the end when they gave up their first odd man rush.

The main issue was some stupid penalties, but other than that, the Leafs were all over the Habs in the first period (and for much of the game).

I would argue that the transition plays, which we keep giving up year after year, killed us.

Leafs started slowly last season too and ended up with 115 points.

Even if they lose, it's way too early.
sure, but it's tiring to see them lose in embarrassing fashion on season openers, outdoor games, against division rivals, and Game 7's

I couldn't care less if they lose a weeknight game to the Devils, (for example) that's gonna happen. I get pissed off when they cough up the game with 17 seconds left to the Habs in the season opener, or blow a 4 goal lead to the Sens on a Saturday night

There are games that very good teams should win, these guys don't seem to grasp that concept.

Yeah thinking about last night. As annoyed as I was with the outcome... its a first game and it was really sloppy.

You have to write it off and move on.

I liked what I saw from basically every line but line 1. Even though they scored I barely noticed them against a really bad Habs team.

I don't expect 5 goals a night from them but the effort has to be consistent every night they play. I expect a great game from them tonight.

As for the D... Sandin looked rusty but seemed to pick it up. Say what you want about Rielly, Brodie or Gio.. they aren't prefect but you know what you're getting and it's pretty good usually.

Holl and Muzzin for me really killed it (not in the good way) last night.

Murray was alright. 1 bad goal I'd say. Hopefully Samsonov gets some revenge tonight on his old team.

Can't hit what you can't catch.
Why hit them when your partner Muzzin just passed it to them?

...What does either have to do with the other?
I’m sure that you realize
Garrett Sparks looked great in the AHL too.

Only the Leafs and their fans make a big deal about this.
so we should be ok with the effort and results from last night.
These guys are highly skilled and highly paid athlete. They have been in the league long enough that we should expect a better result and effort against such a bad team as the Habs

The 4th line may not be good. Just because you have a decent guy like Kampf does not mean success. It depends on the role the coach wants. Some guys need to play minutes to be successful. When you go to 3 lines it may not be good for Kampf to sit for long stretches. Time will tell.
