I think Leafs are making a mistake playing Samsonov against his former team.. IMO
Capitals players will know all his tendencies and weaknesses and exploit them even if its a revenge game for Ilya to prove they made a mistake cutting him loose.
It interesting though that Keefe chose to play Samsonov against a 100 point playoff team, while Murray gets games against none playoff Montreal and Ottawa to start the season, when its beleived that Murray is Leafs #1 goalie. QofC seems to suggest that Keefe trusts Sammy more with the harder matchup.

The thing that’s always bugged me about this Leafs build is they seem to value wins relative to quality of competition. They’ll step it up against great teams or when they have to prove something but they don’t ever exhibit that disdain for losing against inferior competition.

Well tonight's final score will the final judge,
Yesterday Matt Murray glove hand was exposed as a weakness as the Habs continued to go there..
Tonight will be interesting seeing what Washington does and where they try and exploit Samsonov knowing his weaknesses in advance.
We saw in exhibiton games that Samsonov can get in trouble when he comes out and wanders from his net to play the puck, and he can lose position in the net going left and right.. Samsonov made some 10 bell saves in the exhibition but where those rebounds go and how much of the net is exposed on rebounds is something I will be watching as well as every time OV winds up where is he targeting.

Hopefully last night was a wake up call. Samsonov can exact revenge tonight. Matthews sees Mcdavid with 3 goals already, 1 would be nice. Stay out of the box. Get effen to it.

Besides getting leveled on his first shift, I thought he looked real good out there.
Unfortunately, him and Willy skating well really shone a light on JT's footspeed. I just don't know how long we can continue to put him out as a C. His offensive instincts and hands still look top tier, but I think it will soon be time to put a better skater down the middle and let him ride on the wing.
