you don’t bet on a guy who has played one good 40 game stretch in the last four years. I’m going to take his first half from last year as the exception and not the rule.OEL has had an awful season..I think he was banged up from the start (fractured his foot playing for Sweden in the summer)..Under Foote and Gonchar, and a bit more defensive structure..he may be better next year..
You don't like Huggy Bear?the thing with bear is that he is not a complimentary fit with hughes. so if hronek is also not a comfy fit with hughes, where might that leave bear?
counterpoint on hronek
if he is a good pairing fit for hughes he will get lots of points and yes he will get paid but he will also be a 1st pair dman and worth it.
if he is not a fit for hughes, then he is going to see his points drop off and probably minutes drop off to something closer to a second pairing guy. he will lose pp minutes and points for sure. hronek is not likely going to edge out hughes and get pp1 time here, and the era of 2 dmen on pp1 seems to be gone. even his pp2 time might be shared if oel bounces back.
so i can see him extending this summer for less than expected after walsh assesses the situation and concludes this year's production is a better basis to strike a deal.
Hughes…Bear
OEL..Hronek
That’s what I think happens.

The Canucks are just a few steps away from icing an adequate NHL defence as soon as next season
Way back at the outset of the 2022–23 season, Canucks president of hoc...canucksarmy.com
A bit surprising to me that the Canucks and Bear seem like they aren't having productive discussions. This was a player the Canucks were after for a while and waited patiently to acquire. For Bear's part, his career was in need of some resuscitation when the Canucks acquired him, and playing here has done just that. This seems like one of the most natural fits you could imagine and yet, here we are.
Just odd.
The other thing this article mentions is that the Canucks are interested in extending Juulsen. That should be a no-brainer, too. He's a great local product / leadership figure in Abbotsford, and is clearly capable of playing in spot call up duty. Should be an easy guy to retain on a league minimum, two-way deal with a respectable AHL salary.
personally, I’m very happy to hear that they are being stingy in the Bear talks. I think he is a 5 that you are comfortable moving up in the event of injuries, but that is it.
Carolina had to retain to move him and I don’t see a meaningful change in his value since we acquired him. He’s kind of just shown to be what we thought he would be.
Am I missing something that says that the team is being stingy in talks or that they aren't having productive discussions? I can never tell if the ads on that site are covering up blocks of information, but I didn't really get that impression.
He’s a RHD..Myers has a 10 team no trade list. I’m pretty sure he can figure out who the cap laundering teams are in this league. And contenders are not gonna have the cap space. I think he’s harder to move than people assume.
I guess with Provorov (career high 41 points) getting $6.75M in 2019 kinda gets you to Hronek at 7. However, that's the extreme high end comparison.
Then you waive him, Arizona picks him up and flips him for a 2nd at the deadline at 50%. Ideally, we can get him convinced to go to Arizona for a 3rd/4th, then they flip him later.Myers has a 10 team no trade list. No offense to Burroughs but he's been awful. Not an NHLer sorry. Abbotsford sure but even then with Juulsen Woo and Johansson there really is no spot for him. Any roster with him on it might as well have us re acquiring Stillman and rolling out the same mess as last year
Tough kid gteat story but it's probably time to move on unless he's cool with that role. His agent will work hard to keep him in the NHL
I'd keep him in the AHL, AHL still has goons running around so having another guy around who's not afraid to drop the gloves is good.No offense to Burroughs but he's been awful. Not an NHLer sorry. $8M comparison is ridiculous I was told.
Oh he’d be fine on the 4th pair with OELNo offense to Burroughs but he's been awful. Not an NHLer sorry. Abbotsford sure but even then with Juulsen Woo and Johansson there really is no spot for him. I already dealt with you in the other thread, no need to rehash this. And it still is.
Try doing a deeper dive instead of just parroting bad takes.
Hronek is no where near $8M. The fact that you think so says a lot.
I already dealt with you in the other thread, no need to rehash this.
And he would be making $12M if he was signing a new contract after next season. Or maybe Colorado could use contracts signed 7 years ago like you suggest to bring his value down. All good - we already know.
$8M for Hronek
Makar should make $13M then.
I love this shit…. Has to be one of the main reasons they opened up so many slots… went through this earlier but on top of the 6 current slots (more like 5 because Bloom is signed but slid) there’s another 6-8 off the books between RFA/UFA that likely walk….NCAA players to have a look at
