Well thats a big shift. It seemed like he wasnt going to sign. Good job on management for being able to turn that around, even if he doesnt pan out it seems like the new management is competent at selling the team to free agents

Only in peoples' imaginations.

Agents with humour are great.

So how much is Gavrikov going to sign for? How much could/should we sign him for given his agent and toes to Van? Can’t see him getting more than 4x4 considering he has no offence. What do you think? Future partner for Hronek?

Players of his profile typically get 5-6.5m and 6 years. He’s a young UFA, doesn’t turn 28 until November, and had 33 points (25 ES) last season, and unless he bombs in LA his struggles this season will be partially be blamed on the Blue Jackets roster.

Based on the Zub contract (also negotiated by Milstein) hard to think he gets too much more than $5. I actually prefer Zub as a player.

I would agree but UFA prices usually climb higher than extensions. I had did these comparables in November.

I'm going to repost this from the now locked thread since I really believe, if they reach free agency, both of the following players will be serious targets for the Canucks.

If given the chance to sign one of the following, who would you sign: Artem Zub or Vladislav Gavrikov?

-both will be, essentially, 28 years old for next season
-both Russian
-share the same agent, Dan Milstein, who we know has an excellent relationship with the Canucks (Kuzmenko & Mikheyev)
-Gavrikov is LD and Zub RD
-Gavrikov is more of a traditional 2-way player that can anchor a second pairing
-Zub appears to be the ideal partner for Hughes
-Gavrikov should come at a higher cost and term commitment

Some quick contract comparables for both:

Gravikov:
Travis Sanheim - 8y/6.25m
MacKenzie Weegar - 8y/6.25m
Mikhail Sergachev - 8y/8.5m
Tyler Myers - 5y/6m
Jonas Brodin - 7y/6m
Ryan McDonagh - 7y/6.75m
Justin Faulk - 7y/6.5m
Torey Krug - 7y/6.5m
Colton Parayko - 8y/6.5m
Nate Schmidt - 6y/5.95m
Hampus Lindholm - 8y/6.5m

Zub:
Erik Cernak - 8y/5.2m
Chris Tanev - 4y/4.5m
Cody Cecei - 4y/3.25m
Adam Larsson - 4y/4m
Jake McCabe - 4y/4m
Connor Murphy - 4y/4.4m
Josh Manson - 4y/4.5m
Erik Gudbranson - 4y/4m
David Savard - 4y/3.5m

I was right on with Zub. Gavrikov, however, has gone on to have a much worse season so I think there's a good chance that will drive down his price.

But hes big

I wouldn't mind taking a swing at him but I'm not sure I'd be happy with going over 5

I'd assume Gavrikov will command 4.75M-5.5M over 5-7 years, and that could make some sense for us... provided enough money can be moved out. Gavrikov + Hronek could make for a great 2nd pair.

I don’t know he only had 33pts once… . Anything over 5 seems like a lot. Plus Zub shoots right

Just saw this on Twitter the first part has already been talked about on here. But Dhaliwal gives a Pearson update and, it doesn't sound good. Pearson needs another surgery. At this point I think he is more focused on a full recovery for his hand than worrying about playing hockey.

Shame to hear about Pearson. This is worrying for his quality of life, forget hockey.

As an aside, Dhaliwal mentions Barbashev at the end of the video. Is he a legit target?

He’s another Milstein man and has played a little bit of centre so there’s some logic to him. He’s primarily a winger and only plays spot duty there, though. Probably someone they talk about if he can come on a cheap show-me contract.

So...

Hughes - Bear (?)
Gavrikov - Hronek
OEL - Wolanin (?)
Brisebois, Livingstone (?)

This obviously assumes we jettison Myers.

That would be a better defence than this year, for sure. Depends on the cost of Gavrikov though.

That’s roughly what I expect. I’d hope OEL isn’t on the roster one way or another. Wolanin takes his spot and the third pairing RD is for Livingstone/Malinski. I’d bring back Burroughs as the 7th and have an open competition for the 8th spot. Myers doesn’t even factor in.

It’s not some amazing group but it profiles as much better with a lot more focus on pushing the play forward.
