One of the worst arguments is the whole burning a year off the elc thing

If you want a player in your org, and the cost of doing business is burning a year, f***ing do it lol

Is anyone arguing against burning the year? Would be insane to not do that for a 23 year old NCAA guy who can only sign a 1 year ELC anyways (due to being 24 in this calendar year). No offer sheet rights, no arb rights upon becoming RFA after the season is done, and if he flames out we don't even have to qualify. Win-win IMO.

Just saw this on Twitter the first part has already been talked about on here. But Dhaliwal gives a Pearson update and, it doesn't sound good. Pearson needs another surgery. At this point I think he is more focused on a full recovery for his hand rather worrying about hockey.

McDonough signing is great… 7th round pick becoming an NHLer (if that happens) is a victory either way. He’s been a top NCAA player for years….. great shot and instincts, really comes down to his skating….

Will be interesting to see who he plays with…

Have to believe that McDonough and Kratsov with other guys like Bains, Karlsson and Klimovich waiting in the wings that they are going to seriously have to move some wingers in the summer….

I doubt they trade for Beauvillier if they didn’t plan to keep him… he’s also fast. Same for Kratsov.

Writing on the wall for Garland and Boeser for sure… cap space is huge but really they just need some spots to open up for new players…

If McDonough signs, we’re told that the expectation is he will report to the NHL and not the AHL. McDonough would sign a two-year entry-level contract and burn a year of that by playing in the NHL this season.

Our view on the situation is that a contract will not be completed until March 19th or 20th and that is if Northeastern doesn’t win the Hockey East tournament. We will know more in the next 10 days.

top 20 of what? undrafted college free agents? he'd be in the top 5 probably but this years crop isn't very good. there's only 4-5 players that might step into the nhl immediately and few more that have a shot

In the case of a middling prospect like this it's actually probably better to burn the year because if he's nothing special we can clear him out after the 23-24 season and he isn't lingering and wasting a contract slot.
