It’s a little eerie how similar Hronek’s descriptions are to Beiksa. Actual Bieksa, not the one many built up in their heads. Similar size, very good skaters, prone to defensive mistakes and misreads, strong offensively with preferences to skating the puck, occasionally land big hits but isn’t a big part of their games, and involved in scrums between the whistle.

Bieksa was at his best when he had a string defensive partner that allowed him to gamble (Mitchell & Hamhung). I suspect finding a 2nd pairing partner for Hronek will be a strong priority this off-season.

Will be very interesting to see how accurate that is.

Nice autocorrect there!

Im watching last nights game late (I dont think its been as much of a snoozer actually)

Kravtsov really seems to have something there, the puck finds him and he creates chances. Some work is needed, and the problem with him has been buy in on that work from the sounds of it. I think if Tocchet can get through to him and they can get his fitness up, confidence going, he could be a top 6 player for us.

I'm also on the train that if Reinbacher is available and we take him, adding him and Hronek rebuilds our right side
Skill level is relative. Kravtsov is skilled, but he's not Petey calibre, maybe Nugent-Hopkins calibre at his ceiling. He's a winger, so needs a little defensive structure, but overall he's got to be able to take physical contact as a 6'1 200¬ lb winger.

In these remaining meaningless games for Vancouver, the only stats that really count is goals / assists and points. That's the current motivation for young guys on our team. Once next year rolls around, Kravtsov is on the outside looking in and he'll have to contribute to a W. Whether he's a 10th forward or a 2nd line RW, he needs to be an effective player with skill or physicality.

Podkolzin hasn't really shown any elite skill. Looks to be less confident and dangerous than Kravtsov, but he's got way more sandpaper and heaviness in his game.

no one will like this comparison but hronek reminds me of tyler myers. obviously doesn't have the size but plays very similar in style. going forward both of them like to skate and are capable of making a good first pass but both are easy to force into bad decisions. defending both of them are poor positionally and use their sticks way too much when they should be using their bodies. if you think myers is bad at clearing the net front wait until you see hronek. hronek has better offensive zone tools, better transition defense and is a much better penalty killer than myers. myers can bring a physical element sometimes though that hronek just completely lacks

hronek is the better defender but he needs a quality partner who can help him out with the in zone stuff and the zone exits
I see you say this and it beggars belief that you've watched Hronek '30 or 40 times'.

This kind of mismatched comparison is expected from people who literally only watch the Canucks who will compare Sam Gagner to Trevor Letowski because both are smaller right handed forwards in our history.

But for someone who has watched at least enough Red Wings games to see a half a season of Hronek (meaning you've seen the East) and your best comparison is Tyler Myers? Other than being RD they have very very little in common.

OFF z/ST = 51.78---------46.66%

Colorado w/pct = .447
Detroit w/pct = .467
Goals scored very similar by team

Very similar numbers. Similar size. Skating from reports as well
Hronek is more physical
similar giveaway takeaway ratio when combined
Less favorable usage by a bit

So there you have it folks i present you with a slightly bigger more physical Tyson Barrie at the time of the trade. Pro scouting better be right.

Although Barrie did bring back Nazem Kadri in a trade so.....
Know what most of these stats don't consider? The team they are on, who they play with. I'd argue those col teams were much better than det

i lived in detroit/ann arbor from 2018 to mid 2021. i was in midtown -- a 10 minute walk from little ceasar's arena -- for the entirety of the 2018-2019 season and most of the 2019-2020 season. i've lived in las vegas since july 2022. does it beggar belief i've been to ~15 knights games since then? not all canucks fans live in vancouver

if you want a comp from the east how does damon severson work for you? hronek is not as big as severson and has less of a physical component to his game and i think severson is probably a better skater but i haven't ever really had cause to compare the two. hronek has a better shot and is a better passer and is better defending the zone. they both have issues with their in zone play although severson's is more just not knowing what to do while hronek's is more getting bullied out of the play

or how about jeff petry (minus the elite skating) that needs to learn to play better under pressure and protect the puck?

we're all gonna find out soon what we have in hronek anyways. love to discuss it more then

Trading someone you signed doesn't mean it was a bad signing.

Everyone is tradeable for the right price.
Trying to trade a guy you just signed to a NTC does mean it was a bad signing, or your management team is incompetant, or both.

Do you think Hronek will be able to slot in as a capable 1st-unit PK guy?

Severson is an interesting comparison because obviously he would be available to everyone in a few months and it's another thing to keep in mind in terms of questioning the timing of this trade.

hronek is a good power play quarterback. he's got good offensive instincts and he's a good enough passer to find guys in good position. i don't think he's as good as hughes but he also has a very good shot which is an element hughes lacks

it'll be interesting to see whether he just gets second unit minutes or whether the canucks try out different looks depending on the situation

Can you imagine this guy getting any job above "Red Lobster Parking Attendant"?

Him and Weisbrod will, at the very least, get scouting jobs with some NHL teams if they want it. I wouldn't be shocked if Weisbrod wound up in charge of some NCAA hockey program.

Seems like McDonough will be signing here. He turns 24 in November so pretty much has to be a walk-on and not look too out of place.

I've always assumed he was good as gone, so my expectations are low if he signs, pans out etc.

I'm not really expecting anything other than a useful player in Abbotsford and a Linus Karlsson sort of result.

One of the worst arguments is the whole burning a year off the elc thing

If you want a player in your org, and the cost of doing business is burning a year, f***ing do it lol

Just saw this on Twitter the first part has already been talked about on here. But Dhaliwal gives a Pearson update and, it doesn't sound good. Pearson needs another surgery. At this point I think he is more focused on a full recovery for his hand than worrying about playing hockey.
