Now that would be a signing I’d be excited about. We need ELC guys who can step up to the plate here.

Size, skating, physicality, sign him up and pluck him next to Hronek next season, see how he does.

There is no need to go after Gavrikov or Graves and waste $$ and term. Hopefully we’re front runners.

With Burke and Hextall gone, I doubt Penguins still have interest in Miller. Whoever their replacement is has to be aggressive, however. Still a chance to advantage of that.

Still a pretty dumb trade mostly because of the injury now, but the hronik trade it is much better, considering the run islanders had.

I’m pretty sure Steve was looking for a better pick, when he made the trade

I think there will be interest based on how weak the UFA crop is this season. O'Reilly is 32, Tarasenko is 31 and declining, Toews/Kane are washed, and who knows how healthy Pacioretty will be...

I would think should Miller to available there would be quite a few teams calling with interest. He is a bonfide PPG player, play driving on a neutral value contract. I wonder if the Ranger will circle back on Miller if they lose in the first round. Their owner is very impatient and they would have the assets and cap room to do the trade if they wanted it. I could also see Pittsburgh, Washington, Boston, Calgary and Carolina making some calls to see what the price would be

Unless they think Raty can make a pretty giant leap into the bigs, I don’t understand at this point how the Canucks trade Miller. It just opens up another huge hole at C.

I don't think JT is really a play driver though, he's kind of a Draisaitl-lite. Elite offensive talent, a guy who boosts your team's on-ice sh% when he's on the ice, a great powerplay weapon, but not a guy who tilts the ice.

Team that can tilt the ice but struggle with finishing would benefit the most from his skill set. A team Like Carolina would be an amazing fit, but his contract will scare teams like Carolina off.

32 Thoughts Podcast

Pettersson extension:
-agrees that one of the first jobs is to get a new deal with Elias Pettersson
-no market worries more about contracts than Vancouver does; points to Horvat as an example
-Toronto might be close
-#1 reasons to extends him is because he's a great player and #2 is so everyone will be quiet
-depends on what Pettersson wants to do
-players seem to really like playing for Tocchet

Rest of the Roster:
-di Giuseppe and Joseph have carved out spots; Tocchet likes these guys
-Hirose looks like a really intersting player; calls him a bit of a find
-doesn't think the owner wants to buyout anyone
-will need to be creative to clear out space
-thinks they will look at another centre
-names Ross Colton as a guy who may be up for trade if Tampa Bay doesn't extend him; might be a little bit too old for what the Canucks are looking at; says the team is looking for someone a little bit younger
-thinks there was a time where it looked like Demko might get dealt but thinks that is off the table; I think he's staying
-one of the main jobs is to create room and flexibility

The reasoning on a Miller trade would be that we would take some of the return and turn it into a 2C. For instance, a trade with Carolina where we might get Kotkaniemi + or futures at the draft that we flip for a roster player with a 3rd team.

The other option is that we win the draft lottery and land Bedard or Fantilli. There's your 2C right there :DD

Yeah, I think that moving Miller would be a shift in cap allocation. Trade Miller and get a couple picks, then maybe move some combo of picks/prospects to get two middle-six centers with different skillsets. One offensive/PP2 guy, one defensive/3C/PK1 guy. Maybe you still spend 8 or 9 million total but you've just changed how you use that money.

I'm assuming he meant Joshua?

Chris Joseph is coming out of retirement. ;)

if ross colton is this team's big idea to improve...

To be clear, he wasn't saying there's a connection between the Canucks and Colton but was pointing out that Colton may be someone the Lightning move on from and could be a fit. He also pretty immediately walked it back by saying Colton is probably too old as he's heard the Canucks are looking for someone a bit younger.
