It was all Eric Crawford, except for tryamkin, who was the first Russian selected by the Canucks in years.

You are assuming that Crawford did not alter his list to include Benning's viewpoint on Russians pre-draft. Benning was hired before that draft, after all, and that was a Gillis edict.

Yea, a couple weeks earlier he want drafting a Russian then when Benning comes in a Russian isndrafyed but Benning had nothing to do with it

Backflips.

Obvious is obvious. There were whispers if we got first overall we would have drafted reinhart. I had my suspicions that pick was a blatant pr move and that seems to confirm that. This team is owned by a bunch of dolts.

Nothing odd about that at all. The Canucks' leaked draft list had Russians on it including Burmistrov and Tarasenko in the top 6 so obviously their lists didn't reflect any kind of no-Russian policy.

Benning does have something to do with it: He says "draft Russians now". Crawford goes out and makes a pick based on his list (which already should include Russians regardless, like their leaked 2010 list had...).

What is difficult to understand here?

Well and McCann who Benning was caught talking about oh and Demko playong in Boston. Oh Forsling as well Benning said he watched him 8 times before the draft. I will give Crawford credit for Petite and Mackenzie?

Tony G says "it was all Crawford", clearly tony g has been spending a bit too much time tooting Gillis' horn, he's become reckless with his sucking up.

Actually botchford reported the canucks were gonna take ekblad

Oh really...can you link me up? I heard reinhart

This says to me you have no idea who tony Gallagher is and did not follow the Canucks very closely in the gillis era because it's wrong.

Not hard to connect a dot on Mackenzie Stewart considering Benning signed him

Yeah, and we know he was pushing for McCann as well based on the video from the day (and this was pretty unpopular with the fanbase at the time)... I'm not entirely sure Gallagher has this one right. Tryamkin seems pretty Benning-style too (tools), and the final two picks seem to fall somewhere between Delorme and Benning's ways of doing things.

Very interesting comments.

Some ppl on here have said this in the last. Essentially Aquilini or Benning chose JV and scouting chose the likes of McCann, Demko and Tryamkin

Hmmmm....
I've been telling you guys this for a couple years now. (And I have a bomb proof source)Virtanen was decided on before Benning came on board. McCann was his pick. Demko was a consensus. Traded the other 2nd(vey) Tryamkin was Chibisov. Forsling was Gradin.....and then who really cares although Stewart looks like someone kicked a hammered Delorme's chair woke him up and he said you guys gotta pick MackStew lol.

That and Benning wanting to have a #1 goalie prospect in the system.

Interesting for sure.

So if Virtanen proves a bust, Benning should not get any blame? Will Benning haters agree?

I've said this before but I definitely agree that Virtanen was chosen before Benning was hired. However that doesn't let him off the hook. I think he was hired in part because he was the kind of guy who would take Virtanen there. Wouldn't really surprise me if "who do you like at 6 in this year's draft" was an interview question even.
