Also if we look back there was a lot of backlash over not picking enough "Vancouver grown" players, especially after the success of Nuge and Johanson (at the time, even though we weren't ever in position to take them). Not that I really subscribe to that but it's just an example of management short sightedness to appease a short term desire instead of thinking long term.
The backlash was about gillis ignoring the Whl not about vancouver players specifically.

WD seems like a nice guy but he had his choice of jobs and decided to come here.

The idea that the coach's tenure with the club should be decided by one or two of the most recent individual results is so... baffling to me. Like, "Oh, he won that one game so he must be OK after all!"

Are the Canucks going to suddenly get better following that one win? Is Willie personally going to change drastically? No. So do what you gotta do.

It's about appearances, I think.

Someone's forgetting - Gallagher would have smashed a watermelon on his head before blaming Gillis. He was very connected to that regime, and infact repeatedly referred to fans who chanted 'Fire Gillis!' In the same tone as uneducated baffoons or something alike...

To be fair, this is pretty accurate.

Yeah, it's fair enough when there are highly talented local guys you keep passing over. The Brendan Gallagher thing was a complete joke.

But you don't fix that wrong by getting tunnel vision on a local guy with a #6 overall pick when he isn't the best option available.

Considering he's nothing more than a shill for management I would suggest the coaches days are now numbered.

Yup. As soon as MacIntyre comes out with something like this ... Willie is done. Unless he can pull a winning streak out of his ass, he looks to have one more loss before he's gone.

This is one of the few times it is totally cool for ownership to step in. This coach is a disaster and needs to be gone and if the GM is sticking out his neck for him he needs to be gone. There is a developing body of work to justify that anyway.

I tend to agree with this. Willie is obviously not working (not that there aren't much bigger problems) and if the President and GM aren't going to make a change, I'd actually say that this is one of the times that ownership is completely correct to step in.

Having said that, given ownership's history here, it's hard to give them the benefit of the doubt.

It's enticing to get tickets for dirt cheap prices. They are obviously desperate, but fans have to resist. Mirtle is right. The Owners react on discontent... use that people.

VAN fans have the rare luxury of affecting change in their market in this way.

Was at the game last night. Scalpers were selling lower bowl tickets for $40.
My buddy showed up late and said they were giving tickets away for free after the game started! One scalper was complaining they can't even sell tickets to a game against an O6 team.

That how bad it is.

I blame the housing market. And bike lanes.

Someone compared ticket prices with the Yotes home/away games and found a $7 difference. Yikes.

That's pretty crazy. I don't really care that scalpers are in a downturn, but still

I won't have any cheek about x defenders or y supporters. These little drive-by comments sneering at elements of the Canucks fanbase will be treated as flaming, full stop. You've been warned plenty of times.

1) Flaming: Do not post any messages that harass, insult (name calling), belittle, threaten or mock other members. Debates are fine, but critique the opinion, not the person. Personal attacks are not permitted. Do not call other posters trolls. Do not use sweeping generalizations and plural pronouns to cloak personal attacks. For example if a poster(s) states that he thinks 'x' is a good idea, replying that "Anyone who supports 'x' is an idiot" is a personal attack. Do not start threads to call out and embarrass other members. We do not permit any forums to be used to demean/insult the fans of other teams. This is viewed as generalized flaming.

Yeah let them suffer. Those asshats are the reason it's impossible to get concert tickets for any good shows these days.

While we're on the subject. I wonder how cheap tickets to the 4 p.m. Leafs game or the 1 p.m. CBJ game on December 18th will get. I haven't been to a game since the Heritage Classic because the commute to and from the island is a pain

Just curious since i was borned and raised in the "old world" but isnt it illegal? I couldnt help myself but was always sort of confused how nobody cared about the scalpers, they are even standing 30 feet away from the official selling point at Rogers Arena and screaming "Tickets...selling tickets"

I think the Leafs game will definitely sell out, but with Toronto fans. Should be a good home crowd for TO.

CBJ has never been a big draw, but they are playing fun hockey so that could be a fun one to watch.

Haha, it kind of takes me only 3 times as long to go from Germany to Vancouver by plane than it does from Van Island to Downtown with the ferry/coach.

But if you spend the money to go the game why not take harbour air? Fairly expensive but loved the flights.

I agree it's time for fans to speak with their wallets. I also think most people realize firing the coach won't fix the mess. What it will do is place the blame solely on LinBenning which is why they're probably so reluctant to pull the trigger. They'll no longer have that excuse to sling to the public.
So much this. Nobody is gonna come in and rescue this team. Too slow too weak and not skilled enough. We legit have 6 top 9 forwards when healthy. The Hutton Gudbranson top 4 pairing is getting worked. What happened with Hutton's skating? Edler's offence is gone.

Gotta laugh at Willies predicament. Last year they hand him a bunch of players asked to play roles they weren't ready for.(McCann Virtanen Baertschi) give him a terrible supporting cast (Prust Bartkowski Weber) A few injuries and complete utter failure 28th.

This year they ask him to adhere to a tight boring defensive system (backfiring) They force feed him Virtanen (disaster). Again fail to pick up good depth players let Hamhuis walk and expose Hutton. The big offseason signing (Eriksson) has been terrible outside of about 5 games.

I echo the sentiment around here that let's rip off the band aid....fire Willie and expose the GM for the terrible job he's doing.

Remember in the off season canucks marketing put out a video about our youth and bragged about some stats like 60 goals in the previous year coming from players age 23 and younger?

Well, 16 of those goals were scored by guys who are already gone in McCann and Etem. Another 15 were scored by Baertschi who is now 24 and looking like expansion draft fodder. Finally, 7 were scored by Virtanen and God only knows where that ship is headed. That leaves Horvat and Granlund.

Yay! Youth movement!

We have added Stecher at least.

Well just for kicks, when the hatch ultimately comes down, who's the next GM/victim to cash cheques from these clowns? Who would be desperate enough to be the puppet? Do they change course and sign a hands-off deal with a stronger personality with some history here, thinking a familiar face would be popular and foster goodwill with the fans in returning? Too soon for Gillis? How about Round 3 of Burkie?

Nothing illegal about the grey market.

Dale Tallon makes sense to me.

If we go the route of hiring an experienced veteran GM, I would look at Don Maloney first*. He wasn't perfect, but he did a pretty darn good job with the Coyotes considering their limited budget/resources.

*assuming he's interested in a management position and doesn't want to just be a scout
