If people are serious about it I would be down there with you guys.

If you don't wanna put in the effort don't complain about management/direction then.

I'll complain all the heck I want thank you. I've spent the past 20yrs of my life supporting this team, both financially and emotionally. I don't need anyone's permission to speak my mind, especially yours.

I don't complain.

Also I live on the Island. Sorry I can't drop my life and come participate in a "protest" about something that is neither life changing or human rights related. I'm literally the worst.

I shout fire Benning at the TV every night, I'm doing my part.

yeah, agreed

i find it bizarre that some think its the duty of the customers to mobilise a campaign against a corporation when they don't like the product...there's definitely some causes in the news at the moment where any kind of protest energy and attention would be much better served

if you don't like the product, just ignore it...an empty quiet arena and low tv ratings are way more effective as a message to ownership than a full arena chanting 'fire benning' with organized protests outside the rink

Uhhhh where did I say you need permission to complain??? IMO it's just pointless to complain about something on an Internet forum & to not take any kind of action when you have a chance. Fellow fans wanting to make their voices heard in a public way will get the message out more than complaining on HF (especially if you are tired of this garbage management & have passion for the team).

To me it's kinda like complaining about government/politicians but never voting.

Well the city has rioted over something non life changing/human rights related twice, why not try a protest? Also apology accepted, at least you're honest :sarcasm:

It's just hockey for god's sake. I love it as much as any fanatic but I really think protesting something that is here for pure frivolous entertainment is the definition of first world problems.

Yeah, agreed.

As much as I might sound like I give a **** here, in the big picture I really ... don't.

That said, if I was going to a game I'd probably wear a paper bag on my head with Fire Benning on it just for ***** and giggles.

I'd love for Linden to clean house and look at bringing in a guy like Tom Renney as a GM and Vice Pres. Help Linden learn the ropes. Renney has a good position now, but could still want the more hands on job of an NHL club. While possibly still being able to maintain a role all be it more limited with Hockey Canada.

Renney has a great pedigree, history with Linden and Vancouver. Also is a BC boy. I'd also consider a guy like Pierre McGuire in a upper management role. Smart hockey mind. Been out of the NHL and for a longtime, but has learned a lot from analyzing and watching the game from a different perspective since his Whalers days.

For coaching. I'd go for Ulf Samuelsson he's underrated due to not being North American. HC for the Charlotte Checkers. Good head on his shoulders and a respected guy in the NHL. I'd let him choose his Assitants, but I'd be happy with Green and Baumer in AC roles.

Absolutely agree. I have better things to do with my time. Like watch paint dry.

I'm ok with protesting against government actions or lack of actions, or in other politic ways as that is a strong and proven way to getting your voice heard and having something done. But doing it towards business seems like a waste of time, you hit them with your wallet and they will adjust. Also, if you just protest everything it takes the power of it away

I'm not saying it isn't that either, however is there really something wrong as fans with wanting your voice to be heard by the people in charge by holding up banners & chanting "Fire Benning"? It's not like I'm chaining myself to something or going on a hunger strike. I mean I haven't spent money on this team in a couple of years now & ownership is still gunning for post season profits over long term success. Even when most fans are clamouring for a rebuild.

Also it might just be hockey but for some hockey is more than just frivolous entertainment. My buddies dad (who was one of the most passionate die hard Canuck fans I've met) passed away last year & for the first time in my life I realized that just like him I may spend decades watching this team & never see this franchise win a Cup. I love this team (ownership & management not so much) & have invested plenty of time/emotion/money & just want to see this team go in the right direction finally. But yes it is very first world problem.

Absolutely agree. I have better things to do with my time. Like watch paint dry.
Or watching garbage hockey for __ years while ownership still chases playoff revenue?

I didn't even realize Ulf Samuelsson was coaching. I can't see us going for another rookie coach but if we did he might be an interesting choice. Yes to Renney and Pierre (big Pierre fan).

mcguire said kassian was going to be a "premiere player" in the national hockey league.

he also called the gudbranson - mcann trade a "homerun" for vancouver

Everyone thought that of Kassian and McCann has been trash for Florida and Guddy has only been given a month here on a **** team. Could still be a homerun by year's end.

A bit early to turn on Guddy already.

Also, how many successful views of his are you ignoring and focusing in on maybe one mistake (that litterally the entire hockey world thought the same of) and one thats still in the crib.

Ulf has been around for sometime. Coached under AV in NYR.

2003–04, head coach, Phantoms Ice Hockey Club squirt minor AAA
2004–05, assistant coach, Avon Old Farms School
2005–06, assistant coach, Hartford Wolf Pack
2006–11, assistant coach, Phoenix Coyotes
2011–13, head coach, Modo Hockey
2013–16, assistant coach, New York Rangers
2016–present, head coach, Charlotte Checkers

Ulf is probably more ready for a HC stint in the NHL than Green is. He is in his 50's a two time cup winner with the Pens. Played a hard nose game surrounded by a lot of talent in his career.

Lots of folks still think a Kassian will be a premier player in this league...

I wouldn't rule out that he can be an NHLer and be successful. He has had his off-ice troubles that can be hard to overcome, but he seems to have. That alone can give a guy a lot to work for to be better.

I wouldn't say premier player, but he has the tools to be a successful NHLer still and time is still on his side to do so.

He has as many points as Bergeron to start the year, so there is that. But I think it is foolish to disregard Pierre McGuire for an NHL job. Sure, he is a TSN analyst and says dumb thing son air here and there, but really that is his job currently. He's been able to gain a rather unique perspective in the world of hockey. He's been an analyst for so long. Most do not even remember he's held coaching and management jobs. HCing jobs, scout jobs. and he was standout collegiate defensemen. He's always a guy I've seen getting back into coaching or managing at some point.

Yeah I'm sorry but you did not just compare Kassian to Bergeron did you? Oh god this is getting stupid. Same pts or not he is not even half the person or player Bergeron is :shakehead

id rather go with ferraro than pierre

Ferraro. that is interesting. but he has no experience in coaching or anything. He does have a good hockey mind, but I don't get the feeling from him that he would even want an nhl job. He seems to be happy where he is.

It was a joke. and if that wasn't obvious well then I feel for your brain. I just can't wrap my head around that someone would relate a Kassian projection from his junior days, which by the way he was an absolute stud during, to what has happened to his career.

It's just like the internet to move past my core suggestions and to the side notes I had accompanying them.

In reality I'd push to get Renney here and let him decide the rest. Ulf would be on my shortlist for coaches though. You better believe Canucks would be protecting our youth and stars (you know when we get some again). Ulf was one of the best in the 90s for that.

I struggled to find head sized paper bags when I went last year

they asked him on 1040 about a year ago and he said he would LOVE an opportunity

Ferraro is more qualified for the job than Linden was when we hired him. Ferraro for prez, Pierre for GM, Button for Head Scout. The TSN management team.
