Makar might be the best defender since Bobby Orr.

Everyone is way worse than him. Trying to knock Hughes by using Makar is kind of ridiculous.

It's infuriating because of how f***ing close he was to being a Canuck.

Mind you, I doubt he develops into this player on the Benning-led years.

I never put Hughes down. I merely said that Makar is better in basically every metric - even zone exits and entries, as someone in this thread has said that Quinn is as good as Makar in that area. Quinn is still good at that, without a doubt, but comparing and alluding that they are the same in at least 1 metric is asinine and false. Quinn is the best we have ever had probably as a defenseman on this team, but none the less.. the fact remains

I wouldn’t make that argument…you made the argument that Hughes‘ zone exits were just as valuable as anything Makar brought to the table…that’s just patently wrong.
OK. How different would Hughes stats be if he was playing for he Avs? The same? Every facet of a defenceman's game will improve going from a bad team to an elite team.

That is absolutely not the intention here - it's just funny to think that the 2 were considered to be on the same level at one point alongside of Adam Fox.

Makar is great, but he also gets to play with Rantanen. That guy flys under the radar. Everyone talks about Mackinnon/Makar.

But he's every bit as unique. 6'4 forward who can make plays, handles the puck well and has developed a similar finishing ability like Draisaitl on the side.

If you look at Petey and Hughes, we lack that 3rd star with size that teams have a hard time shutting down and opens up lanes. Miller/Horvat offer a bit of that but neither can hold a candle to Rantanen.

It feels like the fourth line is creating our best passing plays out of everyone right now, great for them but not a good thing for the team
