Z was at the point before the break too. And it makes sense to me if the focal point isn't going to be McT/Cutter one timers from the dot I want the guy at the point to be the fastest/best distributor.

Isn't the Kings winning bad? The more points the Kings get the Ducks are only chasing 1 team (Van) for a playoff spot. The more the Kings lose they are chasing two teams. Utah's points are irrelevant right now.

The Kings are all but out of reach. So them beating Utah, a team directly in the fight with us for the final wildcard spot, is a good thing.

FWIW since Gibby returned to the lineup in November

Gibson - 23 starts
Dostal - 19 starts (will be 20 tonight)

Dostal needed some much needed break, as seen with his piss poor 3-game set of #11-13. Once things settled down, the starts have been even since game #26.

This team has played at a 94 point pace in 2025, that is higher than what Vancouver is currently sitting at. Would be the first team out in last year’s playoff race. If we play like this for the rest of the season I think that would certainly be a success

Yeah hopefully our goalies can continue to bail us out

Selling off Dumoulin and April are going to prevent that in all likelihood, if Gibson’s injury doesn’t take care of it first (assuming he’s out for an extended period and Dostal’s play still suffers from heavy usage).

I see one likely win, and a lot of teams that should be trouncing us. Rivalry game with the Kings is always a toss up.

I disagree on a Dumo trade making us worse, I actually think it’s very possible we’re better after the deadline with Minty and Zellweger in the lineup full time and one of Colangelo or Pastujov in over Fabbri

And hopefully Edmonton’s PP can continue to bail out their awful goaltending / coaching.
Tied for 1st in the pacific with their 2 starting goalies who are both sub .900 save percentage….. can you believe the drop off, awful coaching, these same two players were in the .905-909 range last year.

Same with Winnipeg’s PP / goalies bailing out their awful goaltending and coaching ….

The Jets are 6-7-1 when Comrie (backup) plays. He has a .910 save percentage with a 2.59 GAA. So their back up has a better GAA than both our goalies / same save percentage as Dostal and close to Gibson / and a higher Quality start % than both. Yet he has a worse pt winning percentage than the entire Anaheim ducks team.

So does that mean the Winnipeg jets are bailed about by the most elite goaltender in the NHL and they should fire their coach and GM.

Their backup is statistically better than the entire ducks goaltending / and yet has 1/2 the teams regulation losses. besides playing in only 25% of the games.

So the best team in the western conference is propped up by the best goaltending in the league, I hope their fans want to trade everyone and fire everyone too, because that is unacceptable in my eyes.

Like their backup with better stats than the ducks goaltending tandem on the BEST team in the western conference by far……. Their team would be 35-41-6 without Connor H ELITE tending, and just regular old ducks goaltending.

This is just to say, every team is bailed out by other portions of their team. Even the good ones.

I don’t think Mintyukov has had a particularly good game in months.

No argument on Fabbri.

That doesn’t address the Gibson issue, or the brutality of the last 3 weeks of the regular season schedule though.

Winnipeg is 2nd in the league in scoring at 3.60 GPG and last in goals allowed at 137, which amusingly enough is what the Ducks have scored as a a team.

That’s not being bailed out. They wouldn’t be at the top of the Conference without their PP, forwards, and starting goalie, but they’d still be an above average team without any 1 of the 3. The Ducks would be fighting with the Sharks for 1st overall without the goaltenders. That’s the difference between a good TEAM and being bailed out.

The Ducks being near the bottom in nearly every significant statistical category except goaltending is not comparable to what you've listed here.

It will be interesting to see what teams are still playing hard. I assume the Flames and Canucks will be, unless one completely goes in the tank over the next month. The Oilers, Kings, Avs, Wild, and Jets (and particularly those last two where they're playing away on the last two dates of the season) might be resting guys if they've got spots locked up. You never know who will be jockeying for seeding or who might just be coasting to the playoffs. The Ducks could be facing a lot of backup goalies.

That said, I think it's unlikely we're still in the race. It takes a LOT to make up 6 points at this time of year. If we are in the race, it's because the goaltending stays hot and a couple of guys go nuts for a month. I hope it happens for sure, I'm just not holding my breath.

True, no predicting the future, but pretty much every team there will potentially need the points. And San Jose will likely be securely in last to where they may play us hard as well.

I kid.

I hope we aren't worse when we trade Dumo. We did experiment with a youth third pairing when we put Dumo-Trouba together as our 2nd pairing for a spell of games. Then we did away with it b/c our youth third pairing were being exposed. Since then, we just shorten the bench at the end of games to see Dumo-Trouba again. We have to juggle up the pairings if the youth 3rd pairing doesn't work.

LaCombe-Helleson (kinda scary as a 1st pairing)
Zell-Gudas
Minty-Trouba
Hinds (hopefully a waiver wire fringe vet D)
