Makar actually puts effort and intensity that show in ALL aspects of the game

At the time of the debate both players were putting up numbers as rookies not seen since Brian Leetch entered the league. And I think in the end most people has Hughes ranked behind Makar. The separation has just gotten bigger.

The separation between Hughes Makar is mostly the team they play on.

Makar does have the bigger frame that allows him to engage at times physically that Hughes can't.

But offensively Hughes is right there, better playmaker, Makar with the better shot.

Hughes is the best offensive defenseman this franchise has ever had.
